| Member | Sound from 60-grain subsonic 22LR I shoot nuisance crows in a semi-urban area. Although shooting is legal here, I don’t want to alarm the neighbors. I don’t have the $200 the FFL wants for me to own a suppressor for my rifle, but I like the hitting power of the 60 grain bullets. Does anyone shoot the subsonic 60 grain 22LR rounds? Is there a lower velocity version of the 60 grain subsonic 22LR which is quieter? What particular ammo would you recommend? |

| Member | Have tried them in a number of different rifles and pistols. If a rifle will shoot them and won't keyhole at 25 yds. they are quiet and accurate. Best shooting of them is out of an old Ruger Bearcat and very acccurate at 15 yds., no key holeing. Most .22s have a 1in 16" twist which probably is too slow for that long of a bullet. A Ruger 10-22 I have will do good to 25 yds, but I swear at 26 yds. they key hole, at least it seems that way. |

| Moderator ![]() | The 60 grain Aguilas aren't super quiet - there is still a bit of a POP! The primer-only Aguila Super Colibri is very quiet in a bolt-action rifle though, but is severely distance-limited. Both are very noticible in a handgun.

| Senior Member | I like the Cci cb caps. They are not as quiet as I would like them to be but they won't alarm the neighbors at all.

| Member | I checked out the CCI CB caps at http://www.22ammo.com/subsonic.html They are 29 grain bullets, and around 727 feet per second . They didn’t have the LR version, only short and long. But on their subsonic page, I have a choice of bullet grains all the way up to 60. Guess I’ll try a box of each. Any reason NOT to order from 22ammo.com? Thanks, guys, for all the help. |
