| Need the number of my dad's Remington auto 22. I probably won't see him for awhile and because he's quite old he probably won't be able to find it. I shot this gun as a kid in the 60's and remember shooting it one day and it kept jambing so I took it apart. Without asking dad! When I opened it up it seemed like every part inside fell out. I couldn't get it back together that night so I just tucked it under my bed and tried numerous times "at bed time" to get it back together without parts left over. Finally after probably twenty attempts I got it back together and it shot much better. Dad never found out! (It would have been the belt if he had!). I haven't seen that gun in years but from what I can remember the stock was very rounded and it was supposed to shoot shorts, longs and long rifles. I think I tried to shoot shorts one time but it wouldn't do it. I've searched the internet for Remington auto 22's made in the 60's or before and haven't come up with anything. I've seen 551 on the net but with no pics and I'm not sure that's the one but I think I remember some 5's in the model number.

Dad passed away in 2001 and I cleaned up his guns sometime after that. Same thing happened to me. That gun is really complicated and hard to figure out how to get back together. Got it done though. It shoots good and has a new Simmons scope. I gave it to my brother for safekeeping.

| The Remington 55I, that's 55 and i like eye, is the only 22 auto that I know of that was labeled and shot 22 shorts, 22 longs, and 22 long rifle ammo. There was one here for sale at $250 a while back with the recognizable shell deflector at the ejection port. |

This gun from Gunbroker is absolutely beautiful. It makes me want to go to mom and dads and find that 550-1 and refinish it. I've done a few guns recently copying the CDL finish but with slightly more gloss. Marrjob: I couldn't find a 55I and the 550-1 in the picture was labeled s,l, lr.

Brings back memories. Dad's .22 was the first gun I shot at 9 years old. 1965.
