Sounds like the bolt needs to be dismantled and the firing pin assy. cleaned and oiled real good.

When manufacturing .22rimfire, the primer powder is dumped into the casing then the casing is spun to distribute the primer powder outward against the rim, after that step the propellent is dropped then the bullet seated and crimped. In the case of a misfire, assuming the firearm is working properly, I would suspect either the primer powder was not put into the case, was not distributed evenly, insufficient quantity,or was tainted/faulty. With cartridges that can be spun and refired it would indicate to me a inadequate amount of primer powder was introduced during manufacturing.

I don't notice a higher failure rate between brands per se, but I have a tendency to shoot Federal over anything else. With as many rounds as the automated process cranks out at any given time, I expect a certain % to FTF with .22rimfire.

If you pull a bullet from a match round and pull a bullet from a cheap bulk round, you can see the difference in the priming at the bottom.

my friends brother was shooting his bb gun and a little bit later we heard a BOOM so i walked over to where he was and he had shot a 12gauge shell with the bb gun and had a mark on his face where the bb came back off the primer and hit him, it was pretty funny

Same for me with old federals. Had some shotgun ammo blow a big cloud of smoke and when I tipped the barrel down the BB's rolled out.
I have had several types of federal ammo misfire over the yrs. mostly .22 and shotgun shot though.
Also had a .22 ( not sure what brand) explode as it came out of the barrel of my B.i.L.'s .22 cal pistol. peppered me with hot lead flakes from my head down to my bottom. was just glad I was turned away from him when it happened. I SHOULD have been back farther when he was shooting

I have had Federals not fire in old shoguns but Remingtons always do.
