I just bought an old 10/22 that didnt shoot(because of a missing disconnector in the trigger) for $75. the reciever was just refinished, so i took the factory stock, barrel, and trigger from my target 10/22 and put together a new factory 10/22 for $75, instead of paying the $200 expected around here in IA

I recently purchased a 10-22 rifle.
HOWEVER, READ YOUR MANUAL AS IT MAY BE DIFFERENT
On page 13 of the manual it states "The RUGER 10/22 carbine and 10/22 rifles are chambered for, and designed to properly function with, only the 22 caliber long rifle rimfire cartridge, standard, high velocity, or hyper velocity manufactured to US industry standards"
Do not use 22 short, 22 long, 22 shot, or 22 cartridges loaded with blunt nosed sharp shouldered, or explosive bullets...."

What does anyone think about the CCI Mini Mag .22 LR ammo? What about Remington Viper .22 LR ammo?

Found this while surfing, is what they've said pretty good info?
A few basic Ruger 10/22 Do's and Don'ts

Another suggestion

I agree with the cartridges recommended by the other posters.
One thing I often advise is to disassemble to a reasonable extent a new
.22 auto then thoroughly clean it including the chamber and bore.
Often new guns come with an ample amount of "packing or shipping"
grease that can cause problems. After cleaning a light coating of
an oil such as 3 in 1 often is a good idea.

Good hunting and good shooting.
