which to get?

ok, so a guy at my local range has two .22lr target rifles for sale. One is a schultz and larsen single shot for $325 and the other is a Winchester 52 for $500. which do you guys think is a better rifle, and which do you think is a better deal. thanks for the help

depending on which model 52 it is, i would choose the winchester.

Not familiar with either so take my post with a grain of salt...

On a quick search on the net, Schultz and Larsen appear to be a fine gun maker, but not obvious that they even still make .22 guns? They appear to make quite nice centerfires and $325 (sight unseen) sounds good for any high quality gun. The Winchester 52 on the other hand from what I could see is a gun that "only a mother could love"! I guess perhaps nostalgic for the die hard peep sight military/target shooters...

If you really want to evaluate which is best I would suggest buying 100 rounds of Eley Tenex and Lapua Midas M, and shooting 50 of each in each gun. Then decide based on accuracy and looks of the gun.
