I had one of these, got rid of it the very next day, it jammed like u couldent believe, shot crappy, but looked good, if ur going for looks, hey all the power to ya. But if u want a good semi auto, i strongly recomend a marlin model 60, u can get em for around 130-140 im pretty sure. Ive put many thousands of rounds thru mine, and it still shoots atleast 1/4 in groups at 50yrds. I love it to death, and i have no complaints about it at all. But ive heard bad stuff too. Anyways, good luck

It's a shame that yours didn't work.

What was wrong with it? Did you ever contact Remington?

It belonged to a friend. It shot 50 yard groups that varied from 2" to 7" depending on ammo. It also had frequent fail to fires. The dealer took it back, and he got a Weatherby XXII, which uses a barrel and action from Anschutz. Not sure what the dealer did with the gun, but he agreed it was unacceptable. Prior to that he provided a bunch of free ammo to try and get it to shoot. Didn't work.

Yeah, that's too bad.

We've been through this before I'm going to be super pro-Remington 597. It's a biased opinion, but one that I'm sticking to.

There are lots of other great 22's out there.

I haven't checked my 597 from a rest since I sighted in the scope a long time ago, other than being prone to malfuntioning if dirty, I still get 5 of 5 shooting steel at 100yds. bearing in mind the 100 yd steel target is about as big as a med size dog, and I am shooting offhand. You have perked my curiosity now and I'll have to check it. against my 10/22. I know which is the most accurate of my 22LRs and it's my mossberg 144lsa... surprise surprise a 50+ year old comercial version of a military trainer( my first gun, bought used in 1964 ) Damn gun keeps shooting and shooting straight just weighs too much for sporting rifle, lightest I can get it is 7.25 lbs with a 4X scope, but I can still hold a one hole group at 50 yds with it.

Next would be my Henry 22 or my Romanian 22 trainer, after I wacked 2" off the back and had it rechambered I just haven't had time to go out and play for a while.

Then the semis

Here's a bold idea, how about you shoot the gun and form your own opinion. By the way I have one and love it, I also have a Ruger it doesn't shoot any better. It's all in the shooter.http://www.impactguns.com/store/047700196671.html Here's a link to the clips.

rem 597

I have had my 597 for 4 years now didnt ever have any problems with it. have shot thousands of rounds threw it,at our range i am getting the same groups as the guys with bolts. I have aalways read that the remington 597 even with its 1997 problems [lol] is still one of the most accurate .22lr out of the box for semi. almost all the threads about the rem 597 are at least 5 years old or its people who own a 10/22 and are jelouse that they have to spend all kinds of money to make it as accurate as a 597 out of the box lol. I dont know but the guy was right about people putting down the 597.

Also i have the remington 30round clip and it works flawlessly, i let a freind shoot who has never shot before and hes hooked on the rem 597 he said he is going to buy one wich is great since i recommended it to him. also have a good scope and volquartsen extractor for it for the hell of it even though it didnt need the extractor i shoot till you cant touch the barrel without burning your hand and she keeps going and going.......
