J. Stevens Springfield Model 82

From what I have discovered so far, this gun is from the late 1930's. It certainly shows it age. My dad picked it up at a swap meat a few years ago. It's been cleaned up a little since and looks better than it did when he found it. I think there are still some things missing though.

I've attached some pictures of the bolt. Am I correct in observing that the shell extractor is missing? Is it possible to get one for it? The ramp for the rear sight is also gone and the trigger guard is just a piece of metal clamp bent and screwed on.

From what I've read, it's not worth much so I don't feel bad "restoring" it. The stock has about 10 splits running to the butt plate...well there was never a butt plate to start with. So a new stock would be nice to. And bluing or NP3.

On the up side the bore is impressively well intact.

It looks like the extractor is indeed missing. I have a Stevens M-53b Buckhorn and the bolt looks very much like yours.

Brownells - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools

I would try Numrich's first and then Brownell's

Thanks for the brownells link. I forgot all about them. Unfortunately I don't see the J. Stevens part I need or what it's equivalent would be.

That's ok, it gives me an excuse to buy a new .22 rifle
Marlin 981T heeeeere I come.

The bolt and extractor set-up looks very similar if not the same as the Model 83. You actually need 3 parts. Extractor/Spring and Plunger. I bought all 3 parts for a Model 83 from Numrich Arms about 2 years ago. At that time they cross referenced the extractor parts as the same as the Model 53. And what they sent were Model 53 parts.
However while the Spring & plunger were the same, the Extractor for the 83 is slightly different. The difference being that the 53 is held in by a pin. And the 83 (and from what I see the 82) is merely held in from the rear by spring/plunger pressure. You can actually remove the extractor by finger pressure. Hence so easily lost.
In looking just now at the Model 83 listing, I see they no longer cross reference it w/the 53. But I don't know if they have the correct extractor, or just don't cross reference w/53 anymore.
But I was able to make the 53 extractor work by using a small drill bit to make a small dimple the rear of the 53 extractor for the plunger to fit into. Can't guarantee this will work for you. Might be worth a try.
Finding parts for these vintage guns is very difficult. Sometimes you gotta take what you can find and try to make it work. If you give up on it, I might be willing to buy.
