help on 17's

I need info on types, rifles in the moderate price range and expected accuracy and effectiveness.
I am getting interested in getting a 17 for chucks out to 200 yards and target shooting but really don't know much along this line.
Any help will be appreciated

Bud's Gun shop

Montveil: Sir; I just check at "Bud's" gun shop and they are have a ''closeout'' sale. CZ
It's not mid priced unless you comparing them to the $1,000 ones.

i went with the savage 93R17 .17hmr with heavy barrel and accutrigger and it hasnt let me down. its good for out to 200yds but i wouldnt push it any farther. i like to keep my shots under 150yds. i paid $240 and it came with a simmons 3-9x40 scope. this is a very good round, small but it packs a punch.

+1^ to both of the guys above me. I got a 93r17 without the accutrigger but it still works fine. I bought a tasco 6-24x40mm scope for it though and used some good mounts for it. I can hit chicken eggs with it at 200yds. you can look at some of the pictures of it on my profile. I also hit a dimmed sized group at 50yds with it as well. it is an excellent rifle.

Picked up a 93r17 at Walmart yesterday with a Centerline 4/16 scope. After checking local gun shops and getting 210+ on prices, I checked out Wallyworld and there it was at 177 scope 60. No accutrigger tho, but at that price I couldn't turn it down. Haven't shot it yet. The big shock is the price of ammo. I did notice that they have a short version of the 17( necked down from 22lr). Has any one shot this version or should we even try it?

i didnt know that but unless its alot cheaper im not going to try it, the .17hmr is a .22mag necked down so i would assume if it were necked down from the .22lr it would lose alot of its power and distance.

I think you are talking about the 17 mach2 which is different and cant be used in the 17hmr.

I have the mach 2-Converted from s 10/22 and love it,Ballistics are closer than some may think.Getting .25 groups at 150 yards. The negative is the dollar amount tied up-The price of the rifle,The new stock,The trigger job,The conversion kit with E.R. Shaw barrel,And the Nikon Monarch 3.5x10x50 IR scope. But like I said I really like it and it has been very effective.Oh-Ammo is $4.00 a box of 50.
