| Need some help on a rifle?
What would reccomend for a good out of the box .22 rifle a marlin 795ss or a ruger 10/22. I plan on just adding a scope and will be shooting about 75 yard the most. I will be plinking and varmit hunting. Would like the to get the best deal for the money. I did hear the ruger trigger is very stiff, How is the Marlin 795ss trigger? Thanks to all that can help.

Looks by your "Name" that you have already made up your mind. For plinking, accuracy, and fun factor, I'd go with the Marlin 39 or the Henry Model 01. But that's just me.

I'm looking to compare those two guns. I have not made my mind up yet on which way to go.

Both the Marlin & Ruger have lousy triggers...but of the two, the Marlin is FAR more accurate/precise. The Marlin is even less expensive to Upgrade, if you later wish to have a Heavy Target Barrel...they only cost around $90 at Numrich. Ruger has TONS of aftermarket triggers you can buy. They need 'em. Marlin triggers can be resolved in about an hour with two tool items...a Drill & Tap set & a 6/32" setscrew. Drill a proper sized hole (USE a DRILL PRESS) for a 6/32 tap, run the tap thru, put the screw in, and once it all fits properly...take varying grits of sandpaper up to 1000-grit and smooth the end of the screw so that it engauges as smooth as Butter. ![]() Here's another view...clearer pic ![]() Or if you want to do it on the cheap...A little JB Weld can substitute...but the setscrew is MUCH easier to deal with AND totally adjustable After you've honed the trigger & set it properly, go give some CZ owners a run for their money See my 60/795 Aftermarket Items post in the Marlin section for upgrade items...there are more than most folks know about http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/mar...cessories.html (Marlin 60/795 Accessories) Also, when you first get your Marlin, give it a Total Action Cleaning...including those slots on each side of the barrel that almost no one ever cleans...ALL the grease must be removed from the action and it must be properly oiled OR IT WILL FTE! (jam). See my post in the Marlin section about 60/795 FTE's. http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/22-...te-repair.html (Marlin FTE repair)

| Personally, I would go with the Marlin
An inexpensive enhancement would be to glass bed the receiver and barrel to have tighter alignment.

| Senior Member | Grab one of those Walmart Winchester Wooden Box kits for $29.95, it has everything you need for basic cleaning; stand, brushes, rods, etc... My favorite cleaner switches as to the ease of use on a particular rifle...I've used Outers products with good results...CLP Powder Blast & Break-Free...Hoppes #9...it's kind of a whatever's on sale thing with me. They all work pretty well. Dry lube is getting very popular with .22 rimfires...but I have yet to switch. A light coat of oil is all I use...one drop applied with a clean fingertip all over the action...that's ALL. If in any doubt at all, go to your local Gunsmith or Tackelberry-type gun nut and find out how they clean their guns.
