| Super Moderator ![]() | Question - did you clean your rifle before firing it? Century Arms at times does a poor job of selling clean rifles, and some have metal shavings in them. Hesse/Vulcan too. If you've shot it a bit the crap may have ended up worked into everything, requiring a more aggressive cleaning. From time to time, you should clean the powder coated surfaces with brake parts cleaner and then oil properly. Wish I could give a firm answer on what the right lube is to use, but I've had varied results with all of the above. When I say clean aggressively, I mean take everything apart that you can (as long as you know how to do so properly) and scrub with a toothbrush and brake parts cleaner. And wear gloves and safety goggles. That stuff is horrinble on your hands and WILL splash into your eye and make a VERY painful and dangerous experience. I have to say that the G3 is one WIERD gun, but if cleaned of all unnatural substances will go quite some time without needing to be cleaned, and can be quite accurate compared to other military 7.62 NATO semi autos.

| Moderator ![]() | The afore-mentioned advice is good - clean, then clean again, then clean a third time! Use a light lube on the rollers, and see if you can be sue they are round and not worn oblong. Have you checked the bolt gap? Might need some +2 or +4 rollers, if the ones in there are too worn. Also, check the cocking tube - does it impede the bolt carrier at all> Sometimes the Century Monkeys weld the tube on crooked. And check the recoil spring and rod - it too can be crooked and cause binding. If problems persist, check with the guys over on Gunboards.com's CETME/FR8 forum. They know these rifles inside and out!

| Member | I got to go shooting and interchange parts with my friend. It seems to be trouble with the bolt head where i need to pull it forward slightly so the rollers retract fully. it can also be easily moved so sometkhing is wrong I was looking at http://www.robertrtg.com/g3.html and it said you should be able to fit two pieces of paper in the bolt gap and i cant even fit one. that might be something. Can anyone help me out?? I need new rollers or a whole new bolt head

| Super Moderator ![]() | DO NOT interchange bolts with a friend!!! There is a critical dimension called headspacing that has to be precisely set on all but a few rifles. An exception is the AR-15, whose bolts and barrels are dimensioned precisely enough to be interchangeable - we assume.

| Senior Member | What kind of ammo are you pushing through the rifle. Sometimes its all the ammunition and not the gun. I purchased 100 rounds of Indian 7.62 x 51 and the stuff stunk. Every 4 or so rounds was a jam. Very dirty and not very accurate. My Gun dealer even went out of his way to tell me it was junk. So why did I buy it ! Because it was cheap ! Use good ammo and keep your weapon clean. Other than that maybe swap it with someone who is as good as you in weapons upkeep or better. |

| Member | Check to see if your trunion is lined up in the receiver? As for the rest of my advice? Clean clean clean. Clean the thing and then hand operate it about 500 to 1000 times. These rifles shoot better the more you use them. They need a brake in period. Clean it 5 times and then clean it again after. |

| Member | Not to bring a thread back from the dead or anything, but.... I haven't had much time for shooting in the past 6 months but i finally got back to my g3 and after i replaced the locking lever, cleaned the sh%* out of it with brake cleaner, reassembled the bolt assembly 2 different ways multiple times each, and tried 3 different kinds of ammo...The thing keeps on jamming!!!!! I don't know what to do, should i try new rollers, i have virtually no bolt gap could this be the problem?? what a waste of money this gun was, i think ill stick to eastern block firearms. Thanks for your help Bump

| Senior Member | Hey, Gewehr_3, check out my post about my CETME: http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/g3-...-hold-out.html (I couldn't hold out) I think you'll find some good info that may be applicable to your situation. Good luck, man. I love my CETME, but I want it to work as flawlessly as possible... preferably 100% of the time. |
