Things to avoid in the militery

This is for the benifit of Gunnie Ed since he is leaving for basic in Feb. 06

As suggested by Jamesfaync Gunnie Ed shoud read a thread on tricks that are played on new recruits, boots, newbie, whatever you want to call them.
So let give him a hand and forewarn him as to what might befall him.

Never request a PRK E8

Tracer Paint is extremely rare!

Good luck trying to find a box of grid squares! (actually they come in bags.)

So I implore all personal to give us a hand and give a SitRep on what they ummmm...... didn't fall for.

Don't go to Supply looking for 'Sound Powered Phone Batteries', or 'Fallopian Tubes'. 'Relative Bearing Grease' is also in short supply. :nod:

Don't ask the commo guy for a can of "radio squelch".

Never ask the supply sergeant for "BA1100N strings".

You will never find the valve stem for the road wheels on a tracked vehicle.

Never apply for the "in-flight missle mechanic" opening.

Supply is always out of chem-light batteries.

Never ask the motor pool sergeant for "black out drive head light gaskets".

Don't try to "burp" the fuel tanks on HUMVEE's.

Never, EVER, EVER tell an NCO that you "have nothing to do".

Prop wash is not for cleaning your ship
you will be hard pressed to find a bucket of compression.
You will get hung out to dry if you go looking for skyhooks.
you will be all wet trying to find waterline at the commisary.
trying to find left handed nails won't leave you in your right mind either.

If your Drill Sergeant tells your platoon during "drill and ceremony" practice that you are giving him a headache, don't respond by saying "Drill sergeant, maybe your hat is on too tight.". I very distinctly remember my DI telling me to do push ups until HE got tired.

never refer to a drill instructor as a D.I. never use the word YOU in a conversation with a drill instructor. start and end all conversations with SIR. never refer to your rifle as a gun. another name for the saber your drill instructor wears on the drill field is a B.F.K. "big ------- knife. strive not to be a nonqual at the rifle range. never salute a navy chief petty officer. and always remember if the navy was a department store the marine corps would be the mens department. good luck semper fi

This makes me feel all warm and crap. or mabe it's just the busted thermostat.

Anyway, I appreciate the sentiment and advice.

I've heard all of the tricks, some from the CAP some from other sources.

I'm good at not getting shot, once when I was playing Paintball with my friends, I was hiding in a bush, and my Friend, Gabe opened up with his autococker, and out of about a hurndred rounds not one struck me. It was awesome.

What's a T R dou- oh, I get it.

that's total crap.

You can so fit one in your rucksack. I've done it three times.

disregard 29 you are going into the army not the marines/navy. never ever call a drill sergent or just a sergent for that matter sir. learned that one the hard way

Jerry, you obviously never served with Senior Chief Petty Officer Neil K. Normandin. He didn't take crap from nobody, and ran a tight ship! We'd sail to H E Double-hockey sticks and kick the Devil in the patookus for him.

Well, a large part of being able to avoid getting shot is the marksmanship of the guy shooting at you.

the largest part is keeping a cool head and not craping your bvds or whatever they call them these days, cool heads prevail, but ill doubt youll need that lesson. arty guys just need trignometry, learn math you will need it,
