M48 extraction problems

I have a sporterized Yugo M48 mauser that seems to be having extraction problems. I'm using some Romanian ammo and I don't know if ti's the ammo or the rifle. Anyone else have problems with Romanian ammo?
Every other round sticks in the extractor.

Would suggest a thorough cleaning of the chamber. Try using brass cased ammo if the Romanian is steel. Easier to extract. Just two options to try that I can think of.

I agree with BRG3, if it is STICKING a nice cleaning would do good. If there is still problems with it after a cleaning, it would be time to switch to new ammo and/or get the rifle checked out to find out the problem.

It sticks in the extractor or in the chamber? If it sticks in the extractor, but comes out of the chamber OK, you may have a broken ejector or ejector spring. Both are part of the bolt release.
If sticking in the chamber:
1. Check headspace
2. Try different ammo
3. Scrub the chamber and look in it for excessive pitting or debris.
If it's the ejector, the parts are cheap to replace. If the headspace is bad or chamber is pitted, it's best to make the gun a wallhanger or parts gun. Sometimes, polishing the chamber will allow better extraction even if pitted.

Allan kinda beat me to it but, once a good cleaning is done, a mechanical issue should be ruled out.

I've had extractor and ejector problems in the past and then I've come across brass case rims that were rounded and allowed the extractor claw to slip off of it.

It doesn't stick in the chamber, it stays in the extractor and I have to knock it out with my finger.

You have a broken ejector or ejector spring. It may be easier and not much more money to get the whole bolt release with a spring and ejector already in it. I'm not sure who the sponsors are here, so I won't say where to buy them. It should cost about $15 with shipping, + or - $5. If you have the inclination, see if it's the spring or ejector that's the problem. I'm not sure if the intermediate receiver Yugo release is interchangable with a regular length M98 receivers release, but if you have another Mauser 98 at your disposal, compare/exchange parts and see what you need.

Then it is an ejector problem, no doubt about it. See if it is a.) Broken, bent, or otherwise damaged or b.) stuck down. The latter requires fiddling, cleaning, and lubricating. The former requires a new ejector.

If it is really difficult to fix, always take it one step higher and take it to a gunsmith. That is much better than creating another problem all together and end up pooring money into it.

This is an easy fix, no need for a gunsmith. Take out one screw and the whole bolt release comes off. The ejector is pulled out with your fingers and the spring tapped out of the release housing with a brass punch. BattleRifleG3 is probably correct. Take the release off, WD40 and degunk it. If it still doesnt work and the spring (it's a flat spring that makes up the side of the release body) looks OK, it's got to be the ejector. It's a simple flat, pointy piece that comes out with a bit of jiggling. They are very inexpensive to replace.

I just decosmolined my girlfriend's Yugo M59/55 SKS, and that cosmo loves to hide in those nooks and crannies and hold parts back or leave them quite slow. For example, when I thought we were finished, the bolt hold open device worked when the action was pulled back slowly, but not when racked as fast as I could. Took a wee bit of attention and now it does exactly what it's supposed to.
