| Beretta 92F slide failure Buddy of mine has a 92F (mine is an FS). We did some reading tonight in reference to a post I made a few months back asking about the difference between the 92F and FS. Seems the Navy had a total of three slide failures with the M9 (92F) where the slide broke and it came rearward hitting the SEALS in the face. There is some argument over whether they were using high pressure loads that the M9wasn't designed for or if the slides were inherently weak. Beretta solved the issue by integrating a slide stop pin that wouldn't let the slide come backwards in the event it broke...thus the FS was born. That being said, has anyone ever heard of a Beretta 92F (not the later FS) having a slide failure (besides the ones I've mentioned)? I know people who have thousands of rounds through their 92's and I've never heard of a slide failure. Should I tell my friend not to worry about it? He's over here thinking he needs to dump his well used, beloved, and very reliable 92F cause he's gonna end up with a face full of steel. What should I tell him?

| Senior Member | I know a lot of people in various branches of the military who have carried the 92F. While I'd have to say roughly 90% of them did not like the pistol (for various reasons) however none of them ever complained about the structural stability of the pistol. I'd tell him not to worry about it and just use factory ammo. |

| Yeah we read that one. It was actually only three field failures. Later they got 11 more to fail in the lab after tens of thousands of consecutive rounds.

| That's what is alleged the Seals were using. It really pssd Beretta off because the 92F was used all over the world for years without a problem and then some US SEALS went and blew 'em up. Some wvwn alleged they did it on purpose cause they wanted thier 1911's back. But has anyone ever heard of a 92F failing other than that? I haven't and I think my friend should keep his 92F.

| Super Moderator ![]() | I have had one since 1988 and it has worked flawlessly for me even back then I heard about this issue and Beretta even stated that the firearm should not be used heavily with +P+ rated ammo as it could cause a failure of the slide. +P is plenty sufficient for any issue that someone is going to use a 9mm for so why stress the firearm past design limits.

| I talked him into trading for my FS....his F is much nicer than my beat up FS and I'd rather have it than see him trade it away. Very cool.
