My U.S. Military Rifle Collection *with pics*

OK just wanted to show everyone my small but promising U.S. Military Rifle
collection.
1st one is a U.S. Springfield US MODEL 1878 Carbine,trapdoor 45/70.It's got
some history behind it.It has a YAKIMA POLICE INDIAN NATION,silver badge,
that's been added to the stock.Easy way to carry your police badge is to
put it on your stock.Here's a pic of the badge.

2nd is the masterpiece U.S. ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL MODEL 1903 Serial#20XXX
I beleive it was made in 1907(thanks G&G members).It's in really good 99yr
old condition.Love the sights and the feel of this rifle.This could be the crown
jewel of my collection,even after I finish it..
3rd is a U.S. Carbine cal .30M1 Postal Meter.Don't know much about it.It say
UNDERWOOD on the barrel.It has 7868 painted on the stock.(don't know if
I should leave the painted numbers or not???).I was kinda wondering if this
was an imported gun or not..Well hope you like th pics.I know I have a long,
long way to go on my collection,but ya gotta start somewhere.

how does it feel shooting the 1903 iin the C stock? My 1903 is in the normal stock, and it feels fine, but the C stock looks like it would be a lot more comfortable

The 1903 is a dream to shoot.Now I know why Alivn York,captured more than
200 german soliders.It's one !!!! of a shooter.I haven't shot another 1903 that's not been sportized.What's the differance FutureMarie,in the stocks.DO

The C stock, such as yours shown, if viewed from the side you show, shows the handgrip part of the stock in the form of a C with a heel butt.

The scant stock has no heel butt and apperars to be straighter from the rear of the receiver to the thicker portion of butt stock.

I have one in both stock styles and I see little diffference in shooting feel but there is a little.

I prefer the loks of the C stock myself.

They have a 1903A3 at the local gun shop and I really want it, but it's 700$ and I don't think I want to fork out that much cash!

grndesert - Most 1903's had a straight stock (so called, because the wrist of the stock was straight, in line with the bottom of the butt stock). The "C" stock is the one your 1903 has, and it was intended for the 1903A1, which was an improved rifle, and set up with the Pedersen Device, including an ejection port cut out on the left side of the receiver.

The Pedersen Device was designed to replace the standard 1903 bolt, making it a semi-auto, that fired a pistol sized cartridge, .30 Cal. The 1903A1 was supposed to enable the US Troops in WWI to advance while maintaining a constant fire from the 30 round stick magazine that was inserted at about a 45 degree angle up and to the right of the bolt. The magazines were easily changed allowing the advancing soldiers to continue firing for a long time.

Not only were some of the 1903's modified to the 1903A1 configuration, but there were many M1917 Enfields (P-17 to the unwashed) set up to use the Pedersen Device.

Around 1998 my parents went on a kinda midwest american tour.My father,is
addicted to estate sales,and they were driving somewhere in IOWA????? And
he saw a sign that said estate sale.So he's there... It just happened this

springfield was one of these guns.Not only did my father get all those guns,
but 2 US calvary saddles with struyps,and bridles...(these are his holy grail
of the trip)..Anyway they gun came from there and Iam still researching it,if
and when i find someting out, I'll give everyone some details...
