i recently picked up a k98 fronm ww2 and it is in awesome shape. I shot a few rounds out of it and I like it, but does anyone see a potential in these rifles becoming coolector items even greater than they are now? the one I got was built in 1940 w/ no. code "243", but like I said earlier, does anyone think this gun could be worth more in the future?

The S243 made in 1940 was made at Mauser Werke A.G., Berlin-Borsigwalde. As long as the rifles are in original or "rearsenal" condition they will absolutely increase in value. I have Mausers that I bought for $69.00 20 years ago that are worth 5 to 8 times the purchase price today. There are very few comodities that will return as well and that you can actually have fun with!

Mine is 1937. It has all matching codes.
But....... The exporting country ground off most swastikas and printed markings on the barrel. Not worth much now. If yours is untouched and has all codes and no new markings it would be worth a heap of cash.

all of the (waffen namps) are are still on my gun. plus the stock, bolt and reciever, and barrel all match.

so basically I should not shoot any more rounds out of it because the barrel is is awesome condition too. about 95% of the rifling is there. plus the gun came with a bayonet from ww1, this is the way it came back from the russian storage. the bayonet was a M1898/05 sawback styled bayonet.

Just take really good care of it ! If you shoot it Clean it, dont let it rust ! They are very desireable to the right person ! Try not to let it get dinged up !
The better the condition the more it is worth!

how is the 1070's production yugoslavian ammo? is it reliable? does it go bang? if not, what is the best surplus ammo on the 8mm mauser market

sweet! well to tell you the truth I leave for Lackland in august. My parents were in S.A.C. in the mid 70's. My grandpa joien the U.S.A.A.C. in 1944.

My father Was A P51 Fighter Ace in 1944,he Shot down 5-1/2 German Fighters with the52nd Fighter group/ Beagle squadron !( his wingman got the other1/2) !

I totally agree that IF the Mauser is a German Mauser made for the WW2 effort that the various stamps and other should be in order...however there are scores of Mausers that were not made with waffenamps. I've got Argentine Mausers, Czech Mausers, Persian, Brazilian, Peruvian, Mexican, etc. These all have increased considerable in value from when they were bought. I think that even the Russian Captured K98s that had the receivers ground ill increase in value as there is a limited supply and they are historically significant....JMHO

to " future marine"I haven't shot the 1970's production yugo 8mm ammo, but people in my area have told me they didn't like, mainly because the round were 196 grain bullets. I got done shooting my k98 today and I shot a mix of Turk and ROmainian rounds and my and i'm leein' my shoulder now

oh yeah thanks mooseman684 for wishing me luck at lackland. My dad is teaching me some tricks before I head out there.

MM. That is a collectors peice. With the bayonet too. Take care of it like a baby. But I never support not shooting a good rifle. Go ahead pump a few rounds off. Just clean it and dont abuse it.

it would bee smart to buy ammo that is a little more expensive and keep it NICE and clean
