Polaris MV7

Polaris MV7 (Military Vehicle 700cc engine)
Dual fuel tanks, dual winches, super heavy duty suspension. Front rack holds 150 pounds, rear rack holds 300 pounds.
Saw photo of an Army ranger? in Afghanistan that hit a land mine with one. He survived with minor injuries and they repaired the MV7!!
Weight 990 pounds.
I modified the rear rack for my needs in Northern Minnesota.
I run Seafoam, Sta-bil, and premium fuel in tank. Am I wasting my money?
Hope to put snow trackers on it when I get the extra cash up. Wife says will have to sell a few guns. No way!!!! I'll use snow shoes I guess.

MV7 with load of wood

I'm back to needing a trailer with the MV7. If I build a ATV trailer without springs how much weight do you think the tires and bearings can take? Are springs calculated in the max load the tire can take? I have enough cannibilized parts for a trailer without springs. I'd save a good $200.00 I figure. As a kid growing up on a farm I don't remember any of our wagons having springs. Just frames slapped on 2 axels.

Attached photo of MV7 with hollow tree on rear rack. The tree was filled with mice when I put the chainsaw to it. Only one mouse died. I stopped immediately when I hit blood and investigated the cause.

I use the highest octane I can get in our Polaris'
.....right now 91.

The higher the octane the cooler it burns.

On the other hand I know of riders that use straight 87 octane without any problem.

What about oxygenated fuel? We have it big time in Minnesota. Some stations actually have one non-oxygenated gas pump they recommend to owners of classic cars, small engines, motorcycles, etcetera. Doesn't oxygenated fuel cause the engine to run hotter?

I'm not sure if oxygenated fuel burns hotter that regular or not.

And, I'm not sure what Minnesota calls oxygenated fuel but here in Arizona we have a clean air addative in our fuel from about May to October...or something like that....or is it just the opposite? Can't remember now.

We burn it in our quads and haven't heard of any negative reports from our many friends who also have quads.

I might suggest you call a local Polaris dealer or service center up there that has a good and reputable mechanic and discuss your conerns with him/her.

I know it's not much help to you but that is my suggestion.

You ever hunt those Javelina pigs down there with your ATV's. I always wanted to do that. I did check into it but looked like black powder would be my best option as a non-resident. That actually would be more fun. Got any pictures? Where does one hunt that elusive little porker down there?

I have a web site I'm developing about hunting at my cabin in Northern Minnesota. I'm sure you'd get a kick out of it:

8lank

It's strictly a guy web site with lots of guns and dead animals.

Tires are somthing new from Good Year called "Run Flat". I put between 4-5 pounds of air in them. Apparently they can run with zero pounds up to 50 miles? Past 50 miles they begin to tear apart and can't be used anymore?

Yaaa. the cooler. My daughter bought it for me. Igloo 120 quart? I just tried replacing it but could not find it. Settled for a Rubbermaid 102 quart at Walmart for $58.00

The Igloo holds 15 blocks of ice and the new Rubbermaid will hold 10 blocks. I need the ice for bear hunting this fall. I normally use my handmade monster cooler that holds 54 blocks of ice and two bears fit in it but I couldn't get the whole week off this year for bear hunting (due to career change) so will be using regular coolers for a couple weekend hunts.

I usually use the Igloo cooler for just hauling stuff in to the cabin due to large internal size. But the top of it and the custom rack on back of MV7 are even in height so I can I tie the ladder and or lumber over ten feet long up there too in transport. I don't like hauling my machines on trailers. Too precious!!

I take everything but the kitchen sink with me when I go.

Look at attached photo and metal boxes on rear of MV7. The big Army mash box hold my clothes and the top box holds (4) long guns. Both are totally crush proof, water, snow, and mud proof. I get all of my military needs from the (sportsmanguide.com). They're only 13 miles from me.

I had a couple of good steaks stolen from what we call pine martins (cute weasel looking critters but big as cats) out on the porch. It was winter time and I could hear the pine martin clunking my meat around under cabin the rest of weekend. I would stomp my foot on floor and yell, "Hope you choke on it!"

The video are a problem for most I guess. Even with my high speed Comcast I have to wait about 3-4 mins for them all to load. I don't know how I can fix it, still researching.

What I really need on the MV7 are "Mattracks". They are the cadillac of snow trackers. Be a couple years before that happens though. Really spendy, but I want the best since plan on keeping this machine another 8 years.

I'm thinking about 40hp. Mattracks wants 5k for his. Ouch!!!! But they appear to be the best out there, extremely heavy duty. He's got some super video of the bigger ATV's using them on his web site: www.mattracks.com

They give more torque but I lose about 25% top end speed which I care less about. Give me the muscle.

I'm not too sure how they would do in slush on top of ice. In the winter our lakes freeze but heavy snow loads (Northern MN) cause the lake ice to actually bow down, crack, and flood on top of the ice. It bogs down snowmobile's something fierce. It's white mud and it's bad. I hit just a small patch with my 6x6 2 years ago with snow tracks on and I thought I was done for. When you hit it you open up the throttle and hope you don't bog down completely or you'll be shoveling and man handling the machine to get out, standing in 4-8 inches of slush water.

tommy

What did you mean with a deep cycle marine battery on your gator. Does it work better than a conventional battery. How? Why? Once in awhile I run a spotlight with MV7 and the on board computer tells me I'm using too much juice and draining my battery when the fans kicks on.

I just bought another new quad 3 weeks ago. My Kawasaki 360 Prairie was stolen from my driveway and how in the heck these thieves did it still has me confused. They had bolt cutters for the 1/2" chain. It was a huge chain and it was parked in front of my truck (which is alarmed) and could NOT be moved or so I thought. They did it withought setting off the truck alarm or without anyone seeing or hearing them. I hope the cops get them before I do.
That was on a Sunday night/Monday morning. Thursday I bought a new one. I cant stand the thought of not being able to ride!! And no insurance on it either. I will have to pay for the stolen one and the new one too.
Its against the law to use deadly force for a property crime like a stolen quad but ya never know...they might threaten me and well, things could change.
Low life thieves.

my hpx came with a plain jane stock battery but i added a winch and 6 lights now sometimes i have all six well eight lights runnin and very seldom have the winch in use too but when i do i would run the stock battery down really quick. so i made a bracket and mounted a marine deep cycle battery with about 900/1000 cold crankin amps and added it to my stock battery http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/996...sgator2gn2.jpg as you can see it mounted on the side behind my seat.i am adding a car alternator next to bring up my amp output to 100 amps.i also run a 1000 watt ans a 750 watt power inverter too.believe me this gator packs power in poth ways engine wise and eletrical too. when i'm in the woods i can run tv's small a/c's saws all. eletric chain saws.eletric flood lights.

That's alot of light. The game warden would be out if I lite up the woods that much. But I like your idea of the secondary battery. I got a spare marine trolling battery I can jury rig for extra light at night and solar charge during the day (Ain't no electricity where I take the MV7).

Just got back from bear baiting. Yogi cleaned up fifty pounds of food.

Had a close call with my radiator. Despite what I thought was good grill protection up front I found a slender stick had found a hole and was jammed up against radiator. If I had pushed against anything just right it would have speared through.

See attached photo. The stick went through the small circular holes down low. I definitely need to beef up the slots and holes with with some kind of small mesh. No good!!!!

I have an MV7 too. It is a great utilty quad, the thoughest quad on earth. I want to get a machine gun mount for it

I am also wanting to buy a yamaha rhino 660. I have been looking at all the side by sides and it is by far the best I have came across. But I herd that Polaris built an MV ranger SxS, if I could find one of those it would match my quad.

never heard of a mv ranger sidebyside?? they only have the 500/ and the 700xp's as for as i know. and about rhino 660 being the best i don't think so. they flip over really easy .they only hold about 400lbs in the bed. the rear ends tend to crackup. the shafts break if you do any type of tire upgrade or even if you just palne old haul a lot of heavy loads. so i wouldn't go as for as saying the rhino is the best .

what do you plan on useing the sidexside for? if you want to do alot of heavy hauling i would go with someything like the hpx or rtv.

I use mid range unleaded in my Honda Foreman 400. It seems to digest it better than the 90 octaned gas.
Before Honda changed the spark plug , I and others had a few backfires when slowing down from 90+ octane.

Speaking of shafts the Honda shafts (atleast on mine) have alot of tiny splines and when they go to rusting over time will strip because I had to replace my drive shaft and I also replaced the U-Joints on each ends while I had it down.
Beware ! those 3 parts were 365 dollars.

I use 87 octane gas in my Polaris Sportsman 500HO, and have had no problems with it. One thing I found out the hard way, is that the stock tires that come with the quad from Polaris are 3 ply tires. I shredded 2 tires on my first outing. I ended up buying ITP Mudlites, which are 6 ply tires, and have had good luck with them. The handling is noticably better with the new tires as well. I've also put in a K&N air filter, and have noticed a little better performance as well. One thing to note, and forgive me if this is known information, but the rear and front drive boxes are vented to the instrument pod. So, important safety tip, Egon.... don't get the instrument pod under water. Again, I found this out the hard way, and aside from having to change the gearcase oil due to water being sucked into the engine, I had to change the front and rear drive oil as well, and change the spark plug, fuel filter, and dump and almost full gas tank. I guess I'll think hard next time before I decide to turn my quad into a U-boat. Here's a couple of pics showing some of the mods i've done. The one is ready for the snow, and the other is a good shot of the tires after I had them put on.
