| Southern Ohio Gun is selling CZ82s in 9mm Makarov (12 shot mag) for $225. How do they compare with the Mak? |

| Why not just compromise and get both? I own a CZ83 in .380 ( its the same exact gun as an 82, just a different caliber and a different finish ) and it's an awesome pistol. |

| can you be more specific? I'm thinking about a Bulgarian Mak or a CZ82 also. Can you be more specific as to why you recommend the Mak over the CZ? Any thoughts on the Bulgarian Mak vs. other Maks? The Bulgarians seem to be the most plentiful and at good prices right now. Jay1958 |

| JAY- let me start off by saying i do like the the CZ82. I reccomend the Makarov because i know how reliable it is and you can carry it concealed easily. its a great shooter also. im sure the 82 is reliable and a good shooter, but i just dont have the same experience with it as i do with my Mak.

| I switch around with my CZ83, PA63, and CZ52 when I carry. The CZ82/83 has a bigger grip than a Mak so it might be a little bit harder to conceal depending on what you are wearing. I'm a big guy ( 6'1 and 200 lbs ) so I don't have trouble keeping it hidden with a general waistband holster. ( I use a Passport holster for large auto's ) If you feel the need for having a higher capacity magazine go with the CZ. With either one you won't go wrong. |

That is the second time you have posted a link to that Gunsamerica sale. That particular Makarov is an IJ70 (Russian commercial) Makarov and at $300 is terribly overpriced. Here is a link to an East German Makarov for about the same amount. http://www.coledistributing.com/ The East German Makarov is superior in quality and is C&R eligible. The IJ70s tend to have very poor quality finish and are not C&R eligible. | |

| get over it. im simply offering him the same one i have because it is very quality. Mine is always accurate and always reliable. You need to hold your horses there. and like i said before i KNOW it is an IJ70! PS. dont hijack this thread. the starter only wants to konw how the two pistols stack up. not what Teakwood thinks...

| Here is another link if you are looking for a Bulgie GunBroker.com Item 55206859 [Ends Sep-03-06 05:26:31 PM] Bulgarian Makarov For Sale with Glaser Ammo Getting back to the question of CZ82 vs Makarov - The Makarov is known for reliability and accuracy. The hay day of cheap Makarovs is fading. However, they still can be found for around $200-$300. Best places to look are out of the way gunshops and pawn shops. Most use 8-round mags. True Makarovs were produced in Russia, Germany, China and Bulgaria. All tend to be reliable and accurate. Parts are still available from several sources. The pistol is comprised of 27 individual parts. They are very solid and easy to take apart and clean. Most parts are interchangeable between the various countries of manufacture. They are all good reliable pistols. I own 20 of them and I carry one. The IJ70 Makarov was a Russian commercial version imported in the early 1990s. It tends to have a poor finish and many do not like the adjustable sights. However, it still is a good shooter. The Russian also made a 10/12 round version for a while. Personally, I consider this to be the least desirable of all the models. The Russian and East German milsurp Makarovs are among the best in terms of fit and finish and tend to be a little more expensive as they are the only ones that are C&R eligible. The East German versions are the current import wave. The milsurp Bulgarians are good bet and were a very good deal up until about a year ago when the supply dried up. The commercial versions of the Bulgarians are sold under the Arsenal brand (they are still made today for the European market). Another special edition was sold under the Miltex brand. They are all good pistols. The Chinese version sold by Norinco is a mixed bag. Most have pretty finish, but many are poorly fitted. As to the CZ82, it is an all-steel pistol, like the Makarov. Very well made and dependable. It can carry 12 round and is a little heavier than the Makarov. I do not own one, but I handled them at gunshows and have read a lot of good reports. The CZ factory has a good reputation for reliability and you can still get most parts from them. My suggestion is to hit the gunshow and shops and try them both out. See which one feels best to you. Right now, the CZ82 is probably the best bargain. Last edited by Teakwood; 08-27-2006 at 05:38 PM. |

| Senior Member | REM, Comparing the PM to the CZ82 is like comparing the Model 39 S&W to the GLOCK 19;....they are only similar in calibre. I own several pistols chambered in 9X18 all are different from each other. The PM is slim has a nice trigger pull and decent sights, the mag hold 8 rounds and the mag is release at the heal of the mag...the CZ82 is much thicker in the grip area, it hold 12 in the mag. The sights are better IMHO, the CZ82 is ambidexterous it can be carried coocked and locked and the trigger pull is excellent; the Czechs also fit the CZ82 with a polygonal rifled barrel which increases velocity and tends to be very accurate. If you are looking for an investment buy the CZ82, the Maks have increased in price and you will pay more for a Mak now than a year ago, I'm certain the CZ82 will be very much sought after once the supply dries up. Good luck....
