.177 Pellet gun? Wrist Rocket? Potato Gun? Paintball Gun? I'd go with a paintball gun, that way you don't have to kill them, but they learn to not come around or they'll get shot.

Are you sure it is cats? You might have racoon or opposum doing damage.
Might be a combination of all three doing it.
If the police get wind of your activities you open yourself up to possible charges. I don't know of many county attorneys that wouldn't prosecute. This could effect a decision down the road regarding conceal and carry permit, etcetera.

I like the paintball idea. That way you mark them as a troublemaker and can maybe confront the owner if they have one. We have bird feeders in our yard cats periodically like to ambush our little feathered friends at. Cats learn pretty fast where to stay away from with just the garden hose.

Buddy of mine shot a dog causing trouble with his air gun. The dog howled something fierce causing a neigborhood uproar. He was spotted by kids with the rifle and then they turned on him with vandalism.

NO discussions of illegal activity at Gunandgame, period.

Know your state and local laws. In some circumstances, causing damage to property would make a feral cat a legitimate pest. I would highly suspect it would if the animal were some sort of threat to a human or domestic animal. If you had a farm you might have a better defense, say these cats were endangering your livestock.

Try animal control or the equivalent in your town. They can probably set some safe traps to catch them and take them away. I have stray cats that won't go away as well. My dopey neighbor keeps feeding them, and they won't go away. I really can't do anything about them, but I do have a pit-bull, who doesn't like cats at all. I don't let her off the leash. If I did, she would have them for breakfast. I just lead her near them(more like she drags me to them) when they're in my yard, and they take off.

I wouldn't recommend shooting Any gun in town these days, but several years ago in the small town I lived in, ground squirrels were a major pest. Since we didn't have an ordinance prohibiting it, I found that Aquila Super Colibri's worked wonders on the little critters and the neighbors never knew until I told them-then they invited me to shoot in their yards too!

Sounds like a practical use for a SuperSoaker!

A supersoaker filled with Tinks #69 "Doe in Heat" lure, or some other stinky stuff.

I'd go with a paintball gun set to a velocity just high enough for the paintball to break. When hey go to lick it off, they'll taste that disgusting vegestable protein and won't be able to get it off their tongues for a long time.

I had a cat tear up my garbage. I shot it full auto with an airsoft gun. It didn't come back for months.
Dont worry the gun has a hard time peircing a box. Shoots 350 fps though. So I bet it felt nasty.

Sounds like possums or raccons..cats don't usually get in trash cans....
Whatever you decide....remember that when the cats leave...the rats and mice return.

Thumbs up

About 8 or 10 years ago I used a cage type trap to haul away some cats when I had a neighbor that was feeding strays. Brought them to the pound. Most cats in the neighborhood didn't have a long life expectancy anyway because the coyotes got them sooner or later. This was in Northern Idaho.

Airsoft or paintball sounds good if you can use any sort of "gun".

I like the concept of the mouse traps in the garden. I'll keep that in mind.

The old man who lived right across the street from me had altimers disease and would come out in his front yard and shoot squirrels out of his walnut tree with a 12 ga shotgun. I went over and told him twice he could not do that in the city limits. His family eventually took him to a facility for that, and took away his guns. No one in the neighborhood ever called the police, to my surprise.
