| Question on strange Mauser Today I was at a local gun store and on the rack he had an interesting mauser. It was in almost new condition the blueing was awesome and the stock was nice but looked like it had a heavy coat of some kind of finish almost like the stuff they put on mosin nagant stocks. It had a black leather looking sling with ammo pouches. Also had a bayonet on it. But the strangest thing about it was that it had a a 25 round magazine sticking out of the bottom. They owner claimed it was german and that the sling was an original ww2 sling. But it had a funny looking crest on the bridge of the receiver which I didn't think the germans put crest on their receivers. Also I didn't see an import mark on it but there might of been one somewhere. The gun had a "display only" tag on it. But the guy said he might sell it. He also said he had over a hundred dollars in just the magazine alone which made me think that it was not original. Any ideas on what this gun is and the possible value. Its been there a while and I don't think its going anywhere fast. |

| 25 rnd trench mags were a WWI item, most that are found today are repros. german military mausers did not recieve crests, however k98's that were claimed/captured by yugoslavia did get crests put on them. they were also marked "preduzece 44" on the left side of the front reciever ring. the sling would definately not be original to a k98. import mark would be found at the underside of the barrel near the muzzle. sounds like a parts gun to me. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | Going price on those mags is $60-80. From the sound of it I'd say you'd be better off buying a Mauser and trench mag. Gewer means rifle in German.

| gewehr simply means rifle. semi or single, and the germans used the name for both. |

| Interesting find there, never heard of something like that. But to me it sounds like the Gew. 98 trench mag. model.
