what bow?

hi newbie here...what's the best way to learn using a bow?im quite new to it so afraid to hit something i shouldn't..what bow's are good for beginners?thanks!

the quickest and easiest way would be to go to an archery shop and get some professional assistance.

daniel : if you havent gotten a bow yet , try a yard sale.. people get new 1's and sell the old 1's cheap... new bows come out faster than computers do...
just 1 thing !!! keep it simple... start out slow and do alot of range time... dont start out at the max pull weight.... and if yo see something in a magazine ask befor you buy it !!!! the kids and i have a box full of stuff the looked good but wasnt ....... if yo know other buddys that shoot they might have stuff laying around to help you get started ....

You might look them up. Website is decent and it shows a guy working on bows not shooting them so that's a plus.

The site is pretty cool a\with nice bows too..i like the PSE bows

Il visit the shop maybe next week and ask if they have some cheap but nice bows.

I have a PSE Nova that I really like. Got a new release for Christmas and I still need to get out and give it a try. I haven't had much free time as of lately.

Frustrating has been my experience. Most of the guys I've talked say be consistent in releasing the arrow exactly the same way every time.
Start at 10 yards and when you can constantly place them in a paper plate move out another 5 yards. I had to stop at 25 yds as my max.
Build up some upper arm strength by holding 10 pounds straight out in front of you for as long as you can, then practice holding your bow drawn as long as you can without releasing. Never dry fire a compound bow.
Deer seem to have the uncanny timing to look right at you as you are half way into the draw and you must freeze in the worst possible position. Practice the freeze hold.
If you get the draw back but are shaky and seriously doubt you can humanely make the shot, be a sportsman and let the shot go. Too many bow hunters I talk with have wounded and never recovered the deer.
Price wise I didn't find the sport cheap at all. They took me for $700.00 and that would have bought a really nice deer rifle. What I'd do is look for a dope like me that is willing to dump his stuff very cheap just to get some return on his investment.
And sorry no my stuff is not for sale yet, but yes I am a dope for spending that much.

How much did you get your Nova for if you don't mind me asking?
Around here they are somewhat expensive.
Don't have much experince with PSE, I prefer Fred Bear probaly cause I can get it a bit cheaper. I know you get what you pay for, but so far I have no complaints.
Buckmaster BTR $183.00 and another 25 for a whisper bisket.
Have you shot with anything in their line? If so how fair does it compair?

Been bow hunting for twenty three years. I love it its relaxing and whats really nice is some friends and family dont freak out when i bring out a bow and practice.
The biggest thing is forget everything else that is going on in your life. it needs all of your attention.

So what did you get and how has it been working for you?

I know nothing about that bow but make sure whatever you buy fits your body size nicely.. if it feels to short you will never get over that feeling. Make sure its all good in your head (with shooting a bow its 3/4s mental) then you should do well. Just dont spend a 1000 bucks on your first bow, what if you dont like the sport. I love this sport so much i have 3 different bows now. I just bought a recurve bow. now thats interesting..

before u ever buy a bow u have to get it set for ur draw length and weight dont go into a store and just buy a buy a bow that u like. make sure u get arrows sized for ur bows length and draw weight decide the weight of the field tips ur gonna get and match the broadheads to that grain. im 16 years old and have been archery huntin for 2 years in pa and jersey and at 40 yards i can shoot 4 inch groups which i think is pretty good just stay consistant and dont drop ur arm when u release the arrow make sure u have ur bow sighted in at least 30 yards max i have my bow good for 40 yards i shoot a Reflex grizzley with cabela'a carbon hunter arrows and mechanical arrows and i wouldent trade taht setup for ne thing
