New Guy New Gun

New to the board. Stumbled across it while doing research.

Just purchased a FEG PA-63 from an estate sale for $140.00. It has the two- tone finish/aluminum frame. It came with 2 magazines. From what I can tell (and I am not an expert) it appears to have been unfired or fired very, very little and extremely well maintained. I have a few questions I would like to pose to the group.

1. Will a holster for a Walther work or is there leather available?

2. Is there somwhere I can find wood grips for it? These are for a Walther by Excalibur:

I would like to find something similar.

3. As a matter of routine, should I change out the springs with Wolff springs?

4. Are replacement sights available? (Old eyes could use higher profile sights)

5. Can you tell when it was manufactured by the Serial Number?

Thanks for your time!

PS I'm only using Walther as a dimensional reference!

Welcome to the site, we're glad to have you. Thats a good looking FEG you have there, sorry I don't know much about interchangeability between FEG's and Walthers, I'm sure someone here should know

I've Googled until the screen is fuzzy; that's how I found this forum and Makarov.com.

I checked Hogue, Ajax, Pearce, and Excalibur. Nothing for the PA-63. I checked Bianchi, Safariland, Gould & Goodrich, Fobus, and Falco. Again, nothing specific for the PA-63. I did run across an E-bay auction for walnut grips but it had ended.

I can find replacement original grips, grip sleeves, replacement mags, various and sundry replacement parts, and nylon holsters but no leather goods or wood grips specifically for the PA-63.

I'll have to admit, I didn't check Bomar or Novak for sights.

If anyone has suggestions on how to refine my search I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time!

No Joy on either recommendation Future Marine. I did find lots of replacmement magazines though, so I know where to pick up some spares for the range.

Thanks for taking the time!

Here's what I have found so far in the leather department:

Bianchi # 59 paddle holster
Bianchi #5 Black Widow pancake for a Walther PP/PPK/S
Galco IWB holster WB252 for a SIG 232
FOBUS Walther PPK/S
Uncle Mike's Sidekick - Ambidextrous" SIZE 1 holster

Hope that might help someone. I may try a set of wood grips for a Walther PP/PPKS and see how radical the filing would be to shape the back strap curve.

For the sights right now, I'm going to dimple the rear and front sight post with a # 6 or 8 round burr and highlight them with sight paint and see if that helps.

Welcome,
Congrats on your new p63. Iv'e been eyeballing one for a while now. You did well on price saving an average of $30~$40 plus tax.

This is an aluminum framed gun. If at all possible stay with standard pressure/bullet weight 9x18.

Feel free to contact this gentleman about grips. I know he does them for P64's. He may be able to help out.

Best,
Jerry

P.S. You either just like ships or we have another Vet. (note I've broken the nasty habbit of saing "boat" big dog)

Hoo-ah Army!

I contacted Omega and he will do custom grips for the PA-63. $60.00 + cost of wood with a 5-6 week turn around. Thanks for the info.

Hello, I'm new to the forum here.
I just got a PA-63 also (it's still in the waiting period). I've been wanting one for awhile, and I'm looking forward to getting it, but the problem I have is the grips as well.
I contacted the Omega site above, and got quoted $70 plus material. To me thats too much on a $140 gun.
I'm also wondering about PPK grips that I could modify to fit. Does anyone know about how much it takes to make them work? Or where I could find some?

I'm glad I found this forum. There's plenty for the Makarov, but not so many for the FEG.

Oohrah Future Marine from a Former Marine. Semper.

Pachmeyer grips for a Walther on a PA-63. Note the gap below the slide and the curve of the backstrap.

Makarov (PA-63) Sites

>>>Try the following sites for Makarov.com and take the tour. There are all kinds of items and accessories for PA-63s and CZ-52s. I think you'll be able to equip your firearm there. They're very reasonable in price also. This site will lead you to others.
Good Luck!

I went to CheaperThanDirt and e-mailed them about holsters for my PA63 and also a CZ70. They were very quick to reply and told me that whatever holster listed for the Walther PP would fit either of my pistols.

Maybe this will help.

Thanks for the info guys. There is a lot of gunleather out there for PPs, SIG 230/232, Makarovs, etc. I've just been afraid to buy something sight unseen and not have it fit. Next gunshow in town, I'm going to try a lot of holsters.

Makarov.com has been an excellant resource, I agree.

Doc, Welcome to G&G! I can build you any type of grip you'd like for around $50.00. The woods\materials that I currently have in stock are:
bubinga, indian rosewood, hunduran rosewood, birdseye maple, black walnut, mesquite, mesquite burl, mesquite root-ball, eucalyptus burl, burl maple, lacewood, cocobolo, wenge, imitation ivory, micarta. If you are interested, contact me by phone @ 325-518-1214. I would need a precise tracing of the grips, a rubbing or tracing of the grip frame, screw dia., and possibly a few pics. At present, my turnaround time is approx. 3-5 wks. and, depending on where you are, I may be able to meet you somewhere to get the tracings or deliver the finished grips as I am a trucker. Thanks, Tim

Update on where I am at with the project:

Start price: 140.00$
FFL Transfer 25.00$
Spring change 35.00$
(was given Military discount by Wolff! Bought the 3 spring kits for Recoil, hammer, and Mags)
Russian made IWB holster 25.00

350 rounds Barnaul Silver Bear 95 gr JHP 45.00
50 rounds of S&B 95 gr. ball and 20 Rounds of Hornady
SXT 95 gr. JHP 30.00

Total 300.00

Fun of fooling around and tweaking things here and there- PRICELESS!

Currently have the 15 lb recoil spring and the 9 lb hammer spring. I think the hammer spring is a little light. I am going to try it with some hard primered ammo (Seiller and Belliot) next week. I may go to the 11 lb. The orginal trigger pull was at 16 lbs on a not so accurate fish scale. I honestly did not find the trigger that bad ( I work with my hands) and the 9 lb is feeling awful light.

I haven't seen the need to change the mag spring or firing pin spring yet.

I am going to use Bright sight paint on the front and rear sights, probably 3 dot, and widen the rear aperature slightly.

I haven't found the stock grips to be a problem, but I am still thinking about taking Toolman up on his offer. I have another BUG that needs new grips first.

FWIW, it looks like the PA-63 grips are going to be popular enough that I can get the pricing down to $35 for smooth, non-thumbrest grips, as long as they aren't in a real pricey wood like ebony, snakewood, ironwood, etc.
