vz24 or 98/22 into a 264 win mag

hey evrybody!! i know im new here but i would like to know what evrybody thinks of this project. im going to have a 264 win mag built and i would like to know which action i should have it done on, the 98/22 or the vz24. any advice you guys could give would be greatly appreciated thanks guys !!!

I'd say go with a VZ-24 due to it being less collectible than a 98/22. 98/22s, such as I have, are not as common and are a bit more valuable. If you're rebarreling anyway, why not use the cheaper and more common model. BTW, the feature that makes the 98/22 stand out is its longer barrel length.

thanks for the advice battlerifle. ill prob go with the vz 24, the 98/22 ive got is a good shooter anyway.

If I were going to spend the money it will take to make a Mauser feed and extract a belted cartridge I'd honestly look at a more suitable commercial action, ie., Savage 110 or the Remington 700 or a Commercial Mauser designed for a belted ctg.. The machining/fitting to get a military Mauser to reliably function with a belted cartride is extensive. The military Mauser system was designed for a cartridge based on the 6.5x55, 7.65x53, 7x57 or the 8x57. When you start throwing the belted ctgs, the Rigby based cartridges or what have you the resulting amount of machining/fitting is very extensive....this means more money. JMHO, HTH

kz5rt, youre absolutly right. ive thought about all that too. youre input actually brought me back to reality lol. i only thought about it because ive got a buddy that owns a gun shop that has had several mausers built into 458 mags, 7-08s 30 06 ect.

7-08 and 30-06 have very similar case shapes and identical rim sizes to the rounds the military Mausers were made for. 264 Win mag would be a whole different animal.

But here's a suggestion - if you like the 264, how about choosing 260 Remington or 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser? They are plenty powerful and shoot the same highly accurate bullets.
