Beretta 92: Information from Answers.com

FS (standard)
The current production version of the 92F with the only change being the addition of a slide-mounted ambidextrous safety (also acts as decocking lever). It is this version that was adopted by the US Army as the M9.

FS has flange on hammer pin that prevents the slide from "ejecting" into shooter's face in the event of slide breakage. You can't see the wider flange unless you remove the slide. If you aren't familiar with the older hammer pin or have an "F" model with which to compare, you probably will not be able to tell the difference in the hammer pin. The link provided by ash explains the reasons for the early slide failures.

They have a slight difference in the grips so be careful when you buy one. Often called the 92 First Series as 92FS.

Have a nice day,
Dennis.
