Upland Hunting Without Dogs?

Are there any hunters out there that do upland hunting without dogs? What are some of the methods you use when you hunt?

I've read alot of the use of dogs and many make it sound as though without a dog you basicly have to get lucky on a 1 out of 1000 chance. Me and my father go Pheasant, Quail and Dove hunting up north in the California Deltas. We don't use dogs. Don't have the money for a fourth dog ( 16 y/o's are blind, Pit Bull + small moving animals= bloody mess) We don't go often enough either.

Just get as many people as you can, and be sure to walk slowly, and kind of zig zag while you walk, pausing at times. Hunting upland with no dog makes it tough, not just flushing the birds, but recovering wounded ones as well.

Dunno about pheasants, but I've never personally known anyone who used dogs on doves or quail. Not that it would be a bad idea...
