| That's a pretty nice FAL for $500! That scope is huge and if you're getting good groups, then there's not too much to worry about. Your gun appears to have the Imbel metric type 3 receiver but everything else looks to be Inch pattern. Metric magazines are cheaper anyway and won't wobble in a metric receiver like they do in an inch so you might be in luck there. Since your front sights are L1A1 and the lower is too, I'd stick with all Inch pattern stocks, although I think metric forearms and pistol grips might interchange but I don't know about the butt stocks. Inch will definitely fit because that's what you have already.
My FAL was $600 and it's a hybrid with an inch receiver, barrel, and gas system and a metric lower with metric butt stock, pistol grip, and charging handle. I think you've got a better deal and it's much more like a true L1A1 minus the metric receiver. As for things to look for, you might want to check the gas setting behind the front sights and make sure it's at a moderate level. If it's set too high, the gun might kick a bit too hard and the action will be battering itself hard against the lower receiver. If it's shooting smooth and thumping the shells out without slinging them a mile, then you're okay. Some people can be too hard on these guns when using potent .308 Winchester rounds which will wear things out much faster than using the proper 7.62mm NATO ammo. TAPCO has buffers you can put in the back of the receiver to keep the bolt carrier from hitting the lower receiver. It's just $15 and will make the gun cycle softer and save it some wear. And does your bolt lock back after the last shot? It doesn't have to and won't in many guns but it's neat if it does work. |
