maximum charge?

Does anyone know the maximum charge for the mossberg 500, .50 cal. muzzleloader conversion barrel? It didn't say in the manual and I can't find it anywhere online. Thanks, joe

I also see it doesn't mention maximum loads..

Dunno... 100 grains doesn't seem out of line, but they don't show a load that heavy, either..

I know that NONE of my muzzleloaders are accurate when loaded near maximum. My CVA Magbolt 150 tosses them all over the place when loaded with 150 grains of pellets, but at 100 grains, it's a tack driver..

It depends if you are shooting black powder, or a black poweder replacement. When I shoot pyrodex, I can load up to 150 grains, however if I were to use black powder, I think 120 is maximium, but I am not 100% sure. To answer your question, I would call customer service at Mossberg and speak to a tech, they will tell you. It seems odd they don't list the max charge, you would think they would want to to avoid a lawsuit?

I talked to a gun smith and they told him 100 grains max. Thanks for the help though.

is that 100 grains of black powder, or 100 grains of pyrodex? just make sure so you or your gun dont get hurt.

WARNING...DO NOT USE THE SAME WEIGHT IN GRAINS OF PYRODEX AS YOU DO WITH BLACK POWDER !
100 grains of Pyrodex is the equivalent of over 150 grains of Black powder !
Use a measure that is 100 gr. of black powder and use the same VOLUME of pyrodex. !!!!
Pyrodex is lighter powder and if you weigh it the same you are OVERLOADING and risking injury.
READ the PYRODEX LABEL !

It's black powder I believe, It's says in the manual what mooseman said about the weight thing, and how to mark the ram rod to make sure you don't over load. Thanks for the info fellas. Joe
