Contender choke tubes

Hello everyone. Well my first question is, do I need to have the choke tube in on a 45/410 12" barrel when I am shooting the 45 colt shells? I just got the gun from my grandfather and I cannot ask him or else I would. Any help would be great.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you fire a colt 45 round with the choke tube in place. It is for 410 shells only. It could possibly be very disasterous if a colt 45 round was fired with the choke tube in place.

Thank you very much. I did not think that it should be in so I took it out before firing just to be safe. Thanks again.
