Recommended Ammo for Carry?

Some people have recommendations for carry ammo such a Wolf, Federal? Do you carry a little hotter load for protection?

Chris,
For the .45 acp I carry 117 grain ICQ Aguila Rounds in my Colt and my Kimber.
They are very accurate, with less recoil , and designed to do maximum damage with a higher velocity.

well I have a 9mm, which I really like, so I was thinking of having a clip dedicated to a little hotter load.

Good to know what you carry

For 9mm the best defense ammo is Speer Gold Dot, 124gr.

I carry a 9mm too, and I did a lot of research because I wanted to feel safe with a nine and that will do it. The new Hydrashock formula is pretty good, but not as good as the Gold Dot. I get mine at a SWAT supply store for $12 a box of 50.

I use the tried and true Winchester Silvertips. They do the job.

Gold Dot in my 9MM and .45ACP.

Standard hollow points in the Mak since I can't find Gold Dots for it (not even sure if they are made in 9X18).

Where do you find this ammo? The lightest bullet I found for a .45-.451 was a berger 160gr.Is this an alloy? If it were lead core it wouldnt be very long if it is only 117gr. Would like more information. samuel.

You might look into Hydrashock for the 117, they might make one. Federal is into those light weight rounds.
The reason I am curious is I often use handguns to varmint hunt and the faster I can get them going and the lighter they are the less riccichett problem.I was wondering if they might have something like the 55gr accellerator for .308,s.I agree about gold dots, they are a good hunting bullet.I prefer the 200gr .45. samuel.

Samuel,
The 117 gr ICQ is only made by AGUILA !
Gulf Coast Ammunition sells it...Home Page.
The MV is 1450 fps and 546 ft.lbs of energy !
AGUILA makes a .40 cal 95 grain ICQ and a 9mm 65 grain ICQ that screams out at 1550 fps !

UPDATE, They now call them I.Q. or HIGH POWER loads !
They are an Alloy hollow point with twisted machine cuts in the bullet sides...Nasty in a word !

Mooseman684:Thanks for the info. They sound good but seem to only be available in loaded cartridges.I will find out more about them as to price but doubt that I can use them when at least 50% of my shots miss and I love to shoot bottles and cans too. They sound like a great self defence round which usually work good on varmints because they open up good and no longer being aerodynamic, dont fly far after riccochetting. The 185gr hp,s work pretty good this way if I dont shoot far so they still have speed to open up.I love to varmint hunt with the same firearm I would use for defence or hunting.I am not really into defence and hope I never have to use a firearm that way.But I love varmint hunting.Again, thanks for the info.. samuel.

I ordered a box of gold dot. I plan on practicing with a good amount of it, so I feel comfortable using it for protection.

I use Sinter Fire frangible hollow point bullets loaded by International Cartridge Company in 9mm, .45acp, 5.56x45mm, & 7.62x51mm. They make frangible bullets in most popular calibres and 12 gage slugs and buckshot.

I carry federal hydrashoks. My hope is that they would make a 380 significantly more effective than it would otherwise be. I also carry them in 40 S&W more for the hopeful predictability of their controlled expansion.

Gold Dot, is good crap, for self defense, it tears the crap out of whatever it hits.
