savage tactical 10fp 223 loads

does anyone have loads for a 223 , im currently shooting 12mm groups at 100yrds and am after loads for 300 and 500 yrds, and what is the effective range for this calibre.

Speer 52 HPBT Match pushed by 26.5 grains gives me a NS group of 3/8 inch at a measured 200 yards.... the most accurate rifle I have ever seen!

I have a Savage 10FP also. 24" Barrel 1:9 twist, Synthetic Stock.

Here's my load receipe:

Speer FMJ BT 62 gr.
H335 25.0 grs FPS 3051

Hornady Match HP BT 68 gr.
H335 24.0 grs FPS 2960

Hornady A-Max BT 75 gr.
H335 23.0 grs FPS 2814

I originally started out with 55 gr bullets. I got my best results going to 68 gr and 75 gr bullets. This is an individual thing, go for what ever works best for you.

I would estimate the effective range would be around 300 yards.
You could push 600 yards but you would need ideal weather conditions to do so. I'm giving you a conservative estimate. Someone eles may give you a lot more yardage for this caliber.

I just tested my new 10FP Tactical with choate stock today. I loaded 23gr of AR2219 with a Sierra 65gr SPBT projectile. Best group was 4 shots 9mm at 100m. But averaged between .5" to .7". As this rifle is still being worn in I would say that is outstanding. If you are getting 12mm groups you are still doing very well. That's still just less than .5".

hi,

My fav load is 55gn hornady flattail soft point with 24 grains bm-1 by adi.
shoots sub moa at 250 yards (2.4")in a cz527 american, but does suffer from about a 50" drop at 400 yards.

Have used winchester silvertip 40gn factory with much sucess but 200 yards is about their effective limit, so have never reloaded.

Sub-moa at 250yards.You must have no wind where you shoot.can i come test my loads there.

I had some success with BM2 and 50gr Ballistic Tip Noslers, I`ve got some 2206 to try, so far only in my 308, I`m yet to use it for my .223.

200 would be my limit for my .223, any further I`d be aiming at the moon for holdover.

I do a lot of spotlighting and regularly shoot my 222 out to 200m.Sometimes close to 250m if there is no wind.I prefer my 22/250 for shots over 200m.The load im using in my 222 is a 55gn nosler BT with 18gns of adi 2207 federal primers and remington cases.The load is working awesome.There is no pressure signs and the barrel is clear of any residue after firing 50 to 100 rounds.It does shoot close to half inch groups at 100m all day as long as im switched on.

I found if I went beyond 25 grains of BM2, the groups opened up big time. By my manuals, I believe 26.2 was the highest recommended charge. 25 grains would have been middle ground, its where I found myself : group versus distance, I craved the tight group so I gave up the distance.

It`s why I shifted ( apart from the cost and the fact you can`t buy Benchmark2 in the big jug ) to 2206H. It`s worked awesome in my .308, if only I had time to get to the range with some loads to try in my 223, I`ve had all the creep taking outa the trigger too... Sigh..

Have tried a load in my 222 using BM2,for the 36gn barnes varmint grenades.I think BM2 probably meters better through the powder thrower better than 2207.I use BM2 in my 22/250.It is very good.Have mates who used 2206 until they couldnt get it anymore.2206h is supposed to be close to BM2.The powder dark stanley is talking about interests me,2219.
