Nice!

Guess I can add myself to the list of lucky Hakim owners. I picked one up a few weeks ago and spent a week just cleaning out the sand(!) and reblueing it. All I can say is that I've never fired anything like it before. I never thought I'd find anything more satisfying than the ka-CLING of a Garand ejecting a stripper clip, but the sound and feel of the bolt slamming forward when you chamber that first round is just so perfect. I remember seeing a Rashid at the same show, so I'm definitely going to go back and pick it up.

Now that I have that out of my system, I have a few questions about the history: what year did they start manufacturing them and which conflicts were they used in?

Congrats! Here you is a little snippet on them.
Quote:
The Hakim Rifle is a gas operated semi-automatic rifle. It was originally designed by Sweden and produced as the AG-42 Ljungman for the Swedish Army. The tooling and design were later sold to Egypt, and the Hakim was produced there during the 1950s and 1960s. The gas operated system is adjustable by use of a special tool on a valve at the front of the gas tube. The gas system is very simple direct impingement type whereby the flow of gas impacts directly on the front face of the bolt carrier, propelling it to the rear, which unlocks and moves the bolt as it does so. The U.S. M16 rifle utilizes a comparable system, except the flow of gas into the system is not adjustable and a self regulating device of the Johnson/Stoner type is built into the bolt carrier assembly.

The Hakim features a Tokarev-pattern tipping bolt system as used in the FN49, Russian SKS and French MAS56 rifles. The rifle is available in 8x57 mm (aka 8 mm Mauser) caliber, 192 grain (12g) bullet only, and has a removable 10 round magazine intended to be reloaded with 5 round stripper clips. It was replaced in the 1960s by the Soviet AK-47 but was kept in military reserve. In more recent years, it has been observed in the hands of some Egyptian police units.

The Rasheed in 7.62 x 39 mm (also manufactured in Egypt) is a scaled down version of the Hakim. Only about 8,000 Rasheeds were produced, while about 70,000 Hakims were produced.

I did read that, but I was curious about the exact year. Mine was built in '56 and had a four digit serial, so would '55 be about right?

Dont get your fingers near that bolt!
I like the blast you get from the gas pushing the bolt back.
And the noise...those things are LOUD.
The Hakim is, by far, the easiest recoiling 8mm I've ever shot. Its a great rifle.

OMG....say you didn't re-blue the gun and take the history marks and character off the ol' girl.

Well, I guess you did if you say you did.

And, worse...let me ask....was it a home cold blue kit in the jar you disfigured her with?

OMG...I bet it was.

OMG...OMG...where's my heart medication?

Dale, grab your '03 and go shoot.
Forget it.
"just say no" to home reblueing.
You will be fine.
I've reblued stuff with a bottle. But a Hakim....I need meds too.
