Good deal on an Baikal IJ-70?

I found this at a gunshop in MS. Does this look like a good deal?

Baikal IJ-70 Makarov. Adjustable sights, Paperwork, 3 mags, case, cleaning rod, tool. Made on 08/93 $275

If anyone has ANY information on this model please let me know. Thanks.

I also found cheaper Bulgarians online. Should I go with a Bulgi? Im not a collector. Just looking for a good CCW.

does it say ij -70 18a or ij-70 17? the first one means it fires the 9x18mm round the 2nd. means it fires the 9x17 or 380acp A means standard capacity H means double stack hi capacity. the price seems about right according to my information. i hope this helps! good luck and have fun! the one you are looking at goes for $250 -$400 bulgarians $125-$200

I should have mentioned this in my intial post. I am looking for a good shooter. I don't care if its a collector piece. Will I go wrong by buying a cheaper Bulgi? I know to stay away from Polish.

i have an IJ70-17A its a good reliable works every time gun. mine came with 2 mags imported by b-west tuc.:az

The IJ-70 is a Russian commercial version of the Makarov. What you found appears to have the original papers etc. If you were a Makarov collector, the price would be a little high, but not too objectionable.
Since you are not a collector, I would suggest that you pass on the IJ-70 and find a milsurp Bulgie or a cheaper IJ-70.
It's a good pistol but many people have an issue with the adjustable sights when it comes to concealed carry.

a friend of mine has an ij70 made in russia.the safety would not work.he asked me to see if i could fix it.i found an east german safety on the internet for about $35 including shipping.it took less than 5 min.to fix.afterward i took the little gun outside and put 50 rounds through it.it proved to be reliable and suprisingly accurate.i was impressed and i'm planning to pick one up for myself.my 1995 gun digest lists them for $199 made by baikal and $249 for kbi.

No offense, but you should know that Baikal was the export agent from Russia or the IJ70. KBI was the import agent in this country. It does not make any sense for there to be a price difference based on those two.

Secondly, you 1995 gun digest is hardly a current reference. I bought a new IJ70 back in '93 for $125. Today they are going for twice that.

Mechanically, I have no real issues with an IJ70. I was just suggesting that by shopping around one could get a better price.

Thanks for all the help guys. Like I said befor, this will strickly be a gun for shooting. Im gonna start looking hard for a bulgi. From what I have read in this thread and others, the bulgi functions great. Since it will be my carry gun, thats what Im looking for.

i just copied what was written in the digest.as far as the price goes the the last one on auction arms was about $250 as you said about twice what you paid new.i however would prefer the east german models on the internet ranging from $300 to $375 because the quality is supposed to be better.as i said i did have to repair my friends safety on a practically new gun.it was replaced with an east german safety and works perfictally now.
