Youth models for turkey.

Just read an intresting article written by Philip Bourjaily in Field&Stream march issue about using an 870 Remington youth model for turkey hunting. He reccomends optic sites which I have never used on a turkey gun.But a few years back I started using one and in 9 shots I have 9 kills with no runners.I use a turkey choke in a 20" barrel,1 1/4oz of #6 lead shot and 3" turkey loads. The big advantage is how easy it lines up with a short stock. He recomends 3 beads on the rib,but Ionly have one and dont believe they are necessary for me.I have used 3 bead rib barrels on clays and dont remember ever looking at but one bead. samuel.

the only thing about useing a youth shotgun is THEY KICK LIKE A MULE !!!!!!!!
i got 1 for the kids in 20 ga. and man dose that thing bite... even when they would use it for trap shooting... unless your going to be humping for along way i would stick with a full size....

yeah they are a lot lighter then your standard 870. something you can do though is take a shotgun shell fill it with 2 oz of lead and put them in on top of the spring where you can put the plug you can make it quite a bit more front heavy to reduce muzzle jump a bit and to reduce it overall you can usually get a couple in the stock just unscrew the buttpad and put a couple in there, it only adds maybe 1/2 a lb to the gun but every little bit helps
