PA-63 mods

I just joined today , any help would be great. I have owned a PA-63 for years and plan to mod to improve.Recoil and hammer springs are on the way. I also put a Handall grip sleeve on and it helps.I love this little gun and you can't beat it for the price!

Woody; Are you saying the PA-63 has too much recoil?

They are in 9x18 yes, and an exact copy of Walther and Makarovs are they not? I find the Makarov recoil very reasonable and the very accurate.

FEG help?

I just joined today and recently bought a PA63. I have a Makarov, which I love, and a buddy bought an FEG cuz of my Makarov, so I bought one also. I thought my sister in law and wife might like the size and feel, but the DA trigger pull is too tough. I keep hearing about new springs, where and which springs (hammer?/recoil?) do I need to get? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Where to get them would be great. Thanks

I am new here too. The info I got from here say use a wather pp/ppk hammer spring and a mak 17 pound recoil spring.I installed and tested this commbo yesterday. The trigger pull is down by over half. The only problem I have had is with wolf ammo. Primers are too hard and takes two hits to set them off. The silver bear works well (jhp) and no feed problems.

Question for you Zen900. Looks as if you are up on the FEG P63.
This maybe a dumb question. I have a p63 and a friend asked if you can shoot the .380 (9X17) in it with out changing any thing. I've matched up the two and their very close. I was just wondering if you or anyone else has heard or tried that.

Don't know. I have seen PA63 barrels with peculiar wear at the beginning of the grooves and lands so maybe some folks do that. I would rather swap barrels than shoot .380 out of a 9x18. But honestly I don't know the answer to that question.

Do not shoot 9x17, (.380ACP) in a firearm chambered in 9mmMakarov. They are very different. The .380 is smaller in diameter both the case and the projectile. At worst you'll rupture a case releasing gasses that may cause serious injury.

Thanks for the info. i was not thinking of doing that But someone asked.
Other question for the all knowing. I had my FEG p63 out at the range on wed and notice the trigger having different travel before triggering the pin. I just replaced the spring in the trigger and the firing pin spring. Any ideas?

Is the trigger still nice and crisp after the spring change,or does it feel mushy and springy? I made a set of grips for a guy who was complaining about his trigger pull and when I pulled the old grips he was missing one of the stirrup pins.

It's like it has the full DA trigger and other times like a SA trigger. I could understand the DA on the first round but this is half way thru the mag. I'll check for missing pins.

Thanks

Make sure it's unloaded and pull the mag and grips. Be careful that the pins don't fall out(I always coat them in heavy grease and reinstall them-helps hold 'em in and keeps 'em lubed as well) and cycle the trigger through both double and single action firing cycles and watch what happens. It sounds like it may be binding somewhere.
