grip safety deactivator

I am doing some research and I need some input. Would anyone be interested in a device that would deactivate the grip safety, not require any gunsmithing, not require any modifications to the firearm, causes no marring or damage and costs under 10 bucks? Please let me know if this would be a worthwhile project. thanks

Why would you want to kill one of only two safeties on a firearm with a light trigger pull?

Never done it myself, just curious why a person would want to.

One of my 1911's has no grip safety.
This was already so when I bought the gun.
I know in Europe a lot of 1911 owners have this done because they are involved in "action shooting" (steelplates and the likes)
It seems to me that it is an job that can be done easy without gunsmithing but I have to compare both 1911's to see what is the difference!

um..... its already been done, but nobody sells it or installs it in someone elses gun due to liability.

Most automatic designs have done just fine without a grip safety. There is historical evidence that browning himself was opposed to the idea, but incorporated the idea into the 1911 design to placate the top brass in the calvery who distrusted his newfangled pistol. I have mine deactivated for the simple reason of speed. If you have ever drawn quickly and tried to engage a target only to find your grip is a little to high or low to engage the grip safety, you will understand.

And if you should be unlucky enough to have to shoot someone in self defense, and have inactivated your grip safety, God help you when you get into court. (You will get into court.) So says my attorney. If you want a pistol without a grip safety, get a pistol without a grip safety in the design.

I live in a castle doctrine state, I will not get into court for a righteous shooting, Thats the law, I can shoot 'em club 'em or impale 'em on a sharp stick without the fear of an overzealous D.A. . But defense pistols are not the market I have in mind. I was thinking more along the lines of competition shooters.

competition shooters just cut the ears off of the backside of the grip safety, if it bothers them. or cut up a wilson combat shok-buffer and jam it between the mainspring housing and grip safety.

Thank you moss. Anyway, I can see which way the wind blows, here at least. but I have decided to go ahead with the project for the simple reason that if it causes this much controversey it must be something that people feel strongly about.

It's interesting to note that the original grip safety didn't have as much of an issue. The higher and wider the grip safety got the more of a chance for lack of good contact, hence bump pads etc.

I would not be afraid to use the Novak mod. I don't see it any differently than after market sights or other options. I could see where a bubba job may cause legal or functional issues.

Most importantly, enjoy your 1911.
