| Registered User | marlin 80 bore I was recently given an old Marlin model 80 .22 S-L-LR. It was in pretty bad shape and I'm fixing it up for fun. I did notice something odd though there is a recessed ring inside the bore a few inches down the barrel that you can see and feel with a cleaning rod. The rest of the bore looks fine and it appears there would be no danger in shooting it. I've heard of one other case of this in a model 80. Does anyone know what it is or what causes it? |

| Senior Member ![]() | Ilooked for a modrl 80 marlin and couldnt find one. They made a model 70 takedown and a model 81 bolt but I think you have a model 60.Anyway you must have a pressure problem with that barrel.I would get it checked and not shoot it. >22lr,s dont build high pressures but a barrel with a hernia would worry me. samuel. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | If your Model 80 has a bulged barrel, you need to have it Re-barreled or have a liner installed by a competent gunsmith, For safety sake. Those were made from 1934 to 1970 so there should be parts available ! Rich

| Moderator ![]() | My Marlin 80DL has a very nice bore, and is a good shooter. It has a hefty "Adult-size" stock, unlike most newer .22 rifles. A 'ring' should be little problem, functionally. I have a Chinese T53 with a bulged barrel, and it is a good shooter. I'm thinking a prior owner of your Marlin may have had a squib stick in the bore, and made another shot behind it, blowing it out.
