Gun Control Polls

There have been references to several polls on gun control from major news media sites, starting with the ABC poll.

Let's add and hit every poll we find that is either PRO-GUN or NON-PARTISAN. This thread isn't for having us all pile onto the Brady Campaign site and hit their polls. This is for polls that claim to solicit the input of the general public, of which we are certainly a part.

Most polls will somehow not allow you to hit them twice. Even if they do, please don't. It strengthens our case if it's clear that each vote is a real person.

So please post the URL of any poll you find on gun control that fits this criteria, being either from a pro-gun organization or open to the general public.

I will stick this thread momentarily.

Here's the ABC Poll already posted in another thread:
ABC News: Is Shooting Grounds for Gun Control?

And of course the NO to HR1022 petition.

Thumbs up

It's been done. We need more signatures, though.

Fox had a poll conducted with interesting results (good):

Apparently ABC didn't like the results, as it stood at over 75% against gun control and seemed to be locked-I couldn't vote.

This is looking very suspicious. Public support goes against more gun control, and we have another incident within a week.

Ive noticed on that poll the republicans and democrats voted practically opposite on everything....except for gun restrictions, nice to see most Americans still have some brains left. Just my two cents..

SilverRun thanks for the link, I find it seriously flawed 2/3 of Democrates 69 percent think there should be stricter gun laws...I'll never believe that one.
I saw on televishion some years ago where the Poll takers can poll a region(s) in our country to get the results the buyer wants for what ever issue there polling...A.H

I found it odd that the two polls (both found on foxnews) seemed to contridict each other. The sorta progun poll (1ST) seemd reasonable, but then the link on the main news page was replaced with the second post that seemed to go in favor of more gun control. Humm? And there I was hoping Fox was diffent than the rest. How dumb of me?

I was delightfully suprised to hear the outline of a poll today on the radio made by NBC. They say that 8 out of 10 americans are for states listing mentally ill patients on the federal list so that they can be barred from purchasing firearms. Also that they felt colleges should inform parents and students if a fellow student is raising suspicion such as this guy did.

It was nice to hear that there wasn't any great support for radical gun control changes.

One thing I was dissappointed with was, of course, the media spin. "The poll does not show any want for specific changes, but shows a wanted change by many Americans." HAH, well dumb-azz...what you just outlined are pretty specific things. They are just peeved that it didn't show people want to ban guns.... BOOYA NBC

I'm not on the same page, CrazyI.

The problem with mental ilness in the terms of the law is that it's being expanded to include post traumatic stress syndrome, which affects many veterans. What matters isn't the stress a person is under - it's how they deal with it. Lots of kids go through terrible stress but don't harm other kids. The ones that do are the ones who think that their stress justifies lashing out instead of seeking help.

Government's definition of mental illness could be later expanded to anything including depression and ADD. Whose definitions and science change all the time.

Raising suspicion is a tough thing to nail down too. There was a girl at my school who, when overwhelmed with schoolwork, exclaimed in jest that she just wanted to die. In comes the administration and it took a counselor's declaration that she wasn't nuts to give her a place to live again. Anyone can be "suspicious." What a school needs to do is make rules that actually relate to student behavior and don't give other students a blank check for accusation.

Albert Einstein was high functioning autistic.

And these potential prohibitions aren't just for these people buying guns - they would affect those living in the same households. So if you have an autistic aunt or an autistic child, there would go your guns.

If a gun in the house of the mentally retarded worries you, don't forget that no one is obligated to keep guns in their house. What worries me is an ever broadening government redefinition of mental health.

Scene from Airplane II: The Sequel - "Let me out of here! I don't belong here, can't you see? I'm perfectly normal, there's nothing wrong with me!" "What's his problem?" "Well, he's obviously crazy."

Also, if anyone is a member of a major online community that has member groups dedicated to pro-gun causes, ie facebook, add to its number. I just wish that people would search for the ones already there before creating duplicate groups.

One group gaining major momentum has a goal to have a million members against Hillary, and is ahead of schedule with its major milestones.

not being able to have a gun in the same house as a mentally retarded person is just dumb, if you put a simple lock designed to keep a child away(cable lock, trigger lock, combination safe etc.) from the gun on it and they can't get it. and my friend has a mentally retarded cousin living with them and she'd never touch a gun.... i dont even think she knows what's in his "man purses(that's what he told some kids who's mother didn't want them to know about his gun his padded zipper case was)" even though she's seen him put the guns in them

That's bull crap look at my user profile and read the bio http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/members/zephri.html
"I Have a less severe form of autism called aspergers and adhd."

So that means I would not be able to buy a gun and continue my hobby!!! Because I'm "mentally defective"

BTW if you were to meet me, you wouldent even notice that I have aspergers syndrom unless I told you.

*nods to Zephri*

I know a couple friends with aspergers; great people, both of 'em.

I wouldn't mind either owning and enjoying our fine hobby/sport of firearm collecting and competing.

I know even more people with differing forms of ADD and ADHD. Very few of them would I worry about owning weapons, but that's for reasons totally unrelated to their attention disorders.

I just took one of my friends with adhd to the range a couple days ago, and he had absolute blast with skeet shooting(he got quite good at it too)! although the single shot shotgun I brought would not punch the primers, so some guys lent us their autoloader.

They also helped me teach my friend how to shoot, and proper safety techniques. unfortuanly he had to do 20 push ups because he kept forgetting to keep his finger off the trigger when not shooting, which resulted in a accidental discharge, BUT he followed one range safety rule to the letter "keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction" the shot went up into the air and everybody lived to shoot another day.
