Depression era 22

Hey all,
I found this forum while looking for information about a rifle that I would like to find. I was impressed with this site and decided to join so I could contribute to the forums and learn from all of you.

What I am searching for is a Marlin .22 bolt action single shot rifle made during the depression. The original cost of the rifle at time of manufacture was $5, it has a brass blade front site. I remember seeing the rifle on a tv show years ago and for the life of me I cannot remember the model number. My understanding is that Marlin made the cheap rifle to enable people to hunt for food cheaply during the depression. Any information on this rifle would be extremely helpful, I would really like to have this rifle in my small collection.

Being a bolt action does the Marlin Model10 bring back any remembrance?

Welcome to G&G...
If it was a Marlin SS .22 rifle it would have to be a Model 65 or 65E.
Mfg from 1932-1938.

Thanks all for the help here. dceptiv the link you gave me got me on the right track. The model I am looking for looks darn close to the model 65, darn close. In fact I would confident that it was a model 65 except for the fact that the book lists the 65 as having a self cocking action and a chrome bead front sight. There doesn't seem to be a model 50 listed in the book at all. Internet searches at this point seem pretty hopeless but I will keep plugging on. Thanks once again for all the help, and I hope you all are having a great extended weekend.

page 301 of that pdf link shows some pics and tells of the marlin .22 model 50.
april 1932 listed for $14, but it's an autoloading so i was wrong on the bolt action anyway.

Check out the Mod 100. Right time period and you pull back the bolt to cock it.

The model 100 was made starting in 1936, which would be late in the depression years, and 3 different models were made...The 100, the 100S, and the 100SB. Production of this model ceased in 1941...

Hey thanks all for the help here. I am now just looking for pic or drawing of the 100 to get a positive id on this rifle. seems as if everything fits, date of manufacture and all.

Not what my Father told me.When the Japanese on 12/7/1941 bombed Perl Harbor that was the end of the Depression.

More or less JoeLee, but according to my Grandfather in was jus one set of deprivations switched fer another!

The model 100 has a brass bead front sight. Pull back to cock. No safety.
Most accurate 22 you'll ever own. Bought one for 60.00 for my little boy and I wouldn't sell it for anything.
