Series 70 has no additional safety features other than grip and thumb safety.

Series 80 has a trigger actuated plunger that moved off the firing pin allowing it to go forward when the trigger id depressed.

kimber uses a similar system activating the plunger off the firing pin via grip safety it's called the Swartz.

Swartz/Kimber

The concept is the firing pin won't fly forward if weapon is struck or dropped. A titanium firing pin and stiffer spring will get same results on series 70 weapon. (lawers)

My opinion is "Stupid is the difference" the basic M1911A1 has no need of further "Enhancements" although there have been some. Don't waste yer money on a series 80 if you can find one get a series 70 of any of the quality GI M1911A1's you'll be happier in the end.

Or do what a lot of us do - take the silly thang out! My Series 80 has been put back to how Saint Browning intended - no useless frippery!

Joe Gun - Heads up for ya, Dookiebutt had asked me first about the Remington Rand/Colt pistol I told you about. Since he got a hold of me 2 weeks ago, I feel like he should have firsr dibs and he just got a hold of me and said he is still interested. If his deal falls through for some reason I will contact you ASAP.

Thanks,

Hayseed
