| The original Krag bullet was long, and the longer nose got pushed up sooner. That is why pointed bullets feed well, because they hit the receiver ramp early and are aimed in. Pointed bullets suffer accuracy-wise because the throat in the Krag was well foward of the chamber. The point bullet has an ogive where it does not engage the rifling for quite a distance, thus dives into the rifling upon ignition. The rounded bullets put that bearing area so much further foward. You may have better feeding if you seat the bullets out farther, and it may also help the accuracy. |
