| A single shot doesn't have to be made as sturdily as the semi-auto/full-auto ones, as they aren't stressed by firing so quickly. If they are made to the same tolerances and/or not kept up, the single shot will have a longer life expectancy, as ezearln put it. Also, with a bolt action or other single shot, you don't have the action of the gun ejecting and reloading a cartridge as part of the noise, so the overall experience is quieter.

| Also to be noted that a silencer (more correctly a supressor) is essentially in both design and construction similiar to an automobile muffler, and just like a automobile muffler with use it will deterioate and become increasingly less effective until it becomes useless. This is accelerated by the use of non-subsonic ammunition or rapid fire through them as well as the construction of the ammunitions components (ie: copper/lead/zinc fouling)

| Supressors are used by criminals and are illegal just about everywhere. They have no use to the law abiding my .02. |

| HMFIC ![]() | This is not in the right forum, and without the proper paper work such from ATF and local sheriff. I would not recommend to even think about doing it for personal use without the proper channels. Update: I created a Class III forum and moved it there.

Haven't you ever wished your guns didn't have to always be so dang loud? Guess I'm a horrible lawless criminal wannabe for wanting a silencer and wishing they weren't so restricted.

Suppressors are legal in all but 6 states: Sound Suppressors and Silencers at Impact Guns Home I wouldn't call that "illegal for the most part" or "illegal just about everywhere", would you?! Now, in the state of WA, where I reside, it's legal to own a suppressor, but it is illegal to use one on a firearm, so technically illegal, but you can still have it if you pay the $200 BATFE tax and get the Form 4 signed by your "Local Chief LEO".

Especially in Texas. But I will check into it. Thanks for the info. Well what I can gather--Texas. Silencers are legal to own. So are machineguns as long you go through the correct paperwork. Now in Texas you can buy firearms from non FFL holders. Not so with silencers. So no they are not illegal and yes the BATF are keeping track of those kind of sales. I think I will pass I like the noise of a bullet passing a 1300 fps fart. Chris where do you get this doublepost stuff from. Double post Double post again Are you getting tired of this yet? | Super Moderator ![]() | You can own one and use them if they are registered under the NFA and legal in your state and locality. Unlike regular firearms that you buy at your gun shop with a 5 minute NICS, Silencers require the ATF to approve every purchase. Instead of a fee around $5, you pay a tax of $200.

| Wow, I didn't know some Gun people are anti surrpressor. I'm currently saving up for one in 22. I'd like to surpress my P22 and G22. I don't know the decibel level, but in a 22, all you hear is the firing pin strike, and if your using the high velocity ammo, then also the ultra sonic crack. I would recomend googling the decible level. also you tube has plenty of video's. |
