Which weapon was the most prevalent sniper rifle for the US during WWII?

She was used all the way through Vietnam as a US Sniper Rifle.

I agree with bravo also, springfield 1903 was used as sniper way till vietnam.

Thought so. But you never know. I am starting a collection of WWII Snipers. I have a bonafide 91/30, and have started on a K98 replica. Will do a '03 next, when my PFD comes. I understand the mounts, etc for the '03 are spendy, true?

I'm not sure. Originally, they were used with iron sights. Snipers began to modify them to hold a scope, and there was some clamp on type mount that they used..if I remember correctly.

My 1903 has had it's receiver drilled. I don't know who did it, or when it was done, but I probably wouldn't do it myself...I'm still afraid that it's compromised the integredy of the receiver some how.

Anyway, the nice thing is that this tapping of the receiver allows for a weaver mount to be put right on.

I'm in the same boat as you, and would like to collect war sniper rifles from as many eras as possible. I think a K98 will be next for me, and probably an original stock for my 1903, since she has a sporter stock on right now...but that's another ~$200.
