Dove Season Todat

I recieved an invatation from one of my hunting buddies to go Dove hunting the other day in which I responded I'll go.

Dove season opens today, it's Saturday morning and I'm killing some time before I lug my self, gun, ammo and alot of provisions such as water sodie pops, and other junk food to snack on while we wait on the doves to fly over.

I'm wondering if there are other members doing the same thing right now, getting ready to hit the door to start the beginning of the 2007 hunting season.

Well I suppose I better go get all dressed up in my Camo because my friend and I agree'ed to meet in his back yard at 5:45 am and it's 5:23 now.

We don't have far to drive to get to his hunting grounds, but we do have to do a little 4 wheeling on our 4 wheeler to get to where were going to set up first.

Good Luck everybody. It's time to go !

Dove season opens Labor Day week end here in LA.Got everything lined up in 3 different spots. ALWAYS make a back up hunt. Cuz someone WILL cancel on youright before. No reason to get "all camoed up" if your gonna be shootin doves in the wide open. I'll be out there this weekend doin damage in my shorts,T-shirt and flip-flops. Remember guys it's hotter than Africa down here. Waaay to hot for camo . You mean your not taking your girl out to eat?

was going today. with all the rain the mid west had, the rivers are way up. took out the dove fields at the tributary lake I hunt. there are other places, but the first half is by permit only that you have to apply for in june. they have standby draws, but with my luck, not happening. if your a land owner your good to go.

Well I'm back and had a good time with my hunt'in buddy. All we saw was 4 doves and the first one was comeing in to the Right Away to my right, so that made him mine...I jumped the gun and shot ! He was'nt close enough to shoot at ! The dove veered to his left away from me and went on to see another day. LOL!
The 2nd. one (if it was a dove) was 10 hundred yards away and just flew over the right of way to my friends left, way to far to shoot.
The 3rd dove lighted on the power line 50 yards away to my right and I steped out of the woods line to stalk as close as i could.
I fired 3 times at that dove and he just sat there and then took off to see another day too. LOL !
The 4th and final dove flew right to my friend as he was layed back on his 4 wheeler and when he saw the dove he made a be grab for his 1187 that was laying on the front rack of his 4 wheeler...but it was to late that dove gets to see another day.

rookie1129 It was down right cool this morning in my part of Arkansas and I wore a long sleeve camo shirt that I would of traded for my friends chambry camo shirt because it was damp and cool out.

We were not 2 miles from our homes so we decided to call it quits at around 8:30 am,
we jumped on our 4 wheelers and headed back to the truck.

It sure was a butiful morning every thing went perfect other than not seeing enough doves, which is o.k, just being there was nice.

The new Mossberg 930 w/24" barrel got shot by my friend and I several times to check the pattern, with the full choke screwed in it. The gun shot to tight of a pattern for where we were hunting. I was very pleased it shot straight and true. Next time I will use the Modified choke...I would of thought the full choke in a 24" barrel would of been perfect, buy it was to tight.
I wished you could of been with us, even though we did'nt see many doves...A.H

Arkansas hunter, I'm glad somebody is gettin cool weather. like I've mentioned before," It's hotter than Africa down here." My Beretta 390 got the dust knocked of her today. It's nice to have birds again. That bitch Katrina did a number on last years dove crop. We won't discuss how many we killed, but we did very well. In the last couple of years there has been a rising population of those Eurasian or ringneck doves. The state and feds put no limit on them. They are the size of a pigeon. This happening anywhere else?

It was hot in ohio also. My buddy and I partnered for 24 dove in 2 days. Spent 6 hours out in the field on saturday and 5 hours today. All in all i'm happy with what we got since we were on public land. Arkansas-Were you actually attempting to shoot doves off power lines? IF so That doesn't sit well with me.

I went with my stepson today-he got three and I got none. We're going back tomorrow but I don't know how much hunting I'll be doing as I want to build a deer feeder also and it's supposed to be raining anyway.

Dierte sorry to say the dove lit on the powerline. I was hopeing he would fly but he did'nt and I was to far away when i shot. The powerline is a 3" heavy braded cable and it's not uncommon around here to shoot them off of them. I think.
With that said I've never hunted on a power line before. In the past I hunted in a corn field.
Personaly when I went to bed that night my consions bothered me about that.
I will probably go again with the friend which is a neihbor of mine, but I want be shooting at any more doves on a power line and too I changed the choke in my gun from full to modified and would like to see if it patterns as good as it did with the full choke.
About the pigion size doves, there starting to show up here AND theres also a small lite colored dove thats came around about ? 5 years ago...A.H

I'd just as soon have the ringnecks to shoot at. they're as big as a pigeon, no limits, and they taste just as good.

Don't worry about too much about it. Everyone takes a shot or two that they know they shouldn't have taken. I hunted w/ my modified choke and seemed to work pretty good. Hell we had a few come in a buzz our decoys, so they were flying pretty close.

We went out again today with a little better luck, I got one, Nick got 4, but we lost one. Even our top-notch bird-dogs couldn't find it. Here's our "bird dogs": http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/DCFC0215.jpg

Well my hunting buddy and I rode the back roads in our part of the state looking for a better place to hunt Doves tomarrow with no luck so were going to hunt on another part of a lease his hunting club lease's.
I't about a 3 year old clear cut with a lot of goat weed and when we checked it out we saw a good many Doves.
So maybe we'll have better luck, if we don't jest going is fine with me...A.H

I spent many days sweating my arse off in Ohio dove fields. I used a skeet choke in my OU and I put a hurting on them many times, The deer flies and mosquitoes put a hurting on me too.

Where I hunted, the odnr did a good job of setting up the fields. They were approx 8-10 acre fields w/ rows of corn and sunflowers down the middle.
