Gew 98

I have a large ring GEW 98 mauser, it is marked on top of the reciever (DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN 1917 ) . The serial number is stamped on the reciever and the barrel, it is only four numbers with N stamped under it.
What markings should be on the right of the barrel under the rear sight?

I recently aquired a older rifle and was curious if anybody new the manufacturer history. On the top of the barrel is: DEUTSCHE WAFFEN - UND; MUNITIONSFABRIKEN; BERLIN; 1915. On the leftside of the barrel is: #9234; Gew 98. It is chambered for 22-250 caliber and a friend of mine used it for many years to varmit hunt. Thanks
