Trader Rating: (0) | .17 is supposed to be great BUT it cost a heckuva lot more than .22lr and the wind is even worse with the .17 than it is with the .22

| Senior Member | The 22LR should be bought before the 17M2 because the 22LR is the most successful round ever devised. There surely must be a reason for this success. The 17M2 is merely a smaller cousin of the 22LR who can throw further and faster. If you really, really like the 22LR then I suggest that is when you should get the M2 to further your hobby. And yeppers indeed: the 17M2 is more expensive. |

Some folks had trouble with the conversions so be aware before hand. Expensive fun it is. 22LR is fun too. | |

| Senior Member ![]() | If you are handy you can do what I do...hit all the gun shops looking for deals on used .22 rifles and take them apart and clean them up. Bolt actions are generally more accurate, and unlike semi-autos, they will feed any kind of ammunition. Some semi-autos have trouble feeding some ammo into the chamber or ejecting it. .22 rifles have the correct rate of twist for .22 ammo.

| Senior Member | I'd say the .22. You can buy ammo that is 10 bucks for 500, or 10 bucks for 50 and pretty much every price (read: quality) in between. But I guess I'm biased towards the .22 (look at my user name).

| Senior Member | I think everyone should own at least one .22 rifle and that .22 should be a Ruger 10-22 there just isn't any more versital .22lr gun out there. If it is something you like go get one. You can also get several other .22's some autos and some bolt actions for less than a 10-22 and I don't think there are many are not a good gun. Have fun and shoot often. As mentioned that is much easier with a .22 just due to cost!

| Senior Member | the only thing with a 10-22 is that you would not get the accuracy that you would otherwise get out of a bolt action. I think thats what your original specs where? |
