| Registered User | Walther P-38 Howdy....this is my first post. I just purchased a Walther P-38 (p1) and fired it for the first time. It was love a first sight (no pun). I never thought I'd love anything more than my 1911 that I built for competition, but this little puppy is endearing. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions regarding this gun. Thanks in advance. | Senior Member | I like my P38 alot too even though I don't have the kinks out of it such as brass hitting me in the head. I have added wood grips and new recoil springs(it really didn't need recoil springs). This winter I think I'll work on the extractor. Even though the design is kinda dated(it's still being made in the USA) it is really one of the most beautiful machines ever made. |

| Senior Member | Greetings and welcome, Meldoc!!! It was suggested to me to replace the recoils springs in my P-38. I did so and I found the replacements quite a bit longer. I think it was a good suggestion and investment. You can get a pair springs a Numrich for $11.20 and good springs will surely save wear on the frame and locking block. My P-38 is one of my favorite plinkers!!!

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | tempharm, welcome to G&G. I'm not sure who has the P-38's in stock, but I would imagine it to be near impossible to order a gun from the U.S. and have it shipped to a European country anyway. If you could, it would be extremely expensive. Maybe one of the other guys here has some experience with that situation that would be more helpful.

| Senior Member | Southern Ohio Gun also has them for $259.95. I think I want one as well. Soon as I get the G-34 off layaway. I work with a budget! I think you will have a tough time getting a pistol from the U.S. to Europe. The U.S. compnaies are importing them from Europe - you should be able to find them in your country if they are legal there. |

| Registered User | walther p38 Thanks, guys for help, but I have checked and our authorities are typically too birocratic to allow the import it from US to our Country. At least for my life time.....any european owner wishes to sell it ? Thanks. |

| Registered User | P38 markings I have a P38 with slide markings cyq and 230 and V on left side. On the right side there is the number 88 under three horizontal bars, a swastika in a circle under an eagle, and the number 88 surmounted by a small star. (As far as I can make out.) Can anyone tell me what these mean? Thanks. Bob |

| Senior Member | P38 Markings Bob, you seem to have a P38 nearly identical to mine. Your P38's CYQ code indicates that it was manufactured by Spreewerke out of Berlin. The 230 V is the serial number and if you see this number down on the frame above the trigger guard and facing forward on the barrel block, you most likely have a matching numbers piece. The other markings are called "Waffenampts" which are the manufacturers proof marks. Your gun was most likely made sometime between January and March of 1945. |

| Registered User | Thanks Thanks for the information. My frame and slide numbers match. Lucky me! Is there any difference value-wise between wartime and post-war models? The wartime models have the nazi markings and that might appeal to some people. |
