A good Chinese or Russian SKS will serve you well. The recoil is not excessive to point of causing a flinch, and the ammo is the least expensive centerfire ammo on the market. I would suggest looking for a fiberglass stocked (not aftermarket!), Chi-Com with a screwed-in barrel. These are usually very accurate and dependable guns.
