|  Model 19 Highway Patrolman? About 30 years ago I bought a S&W .357 revolver described by the seller as a Model 19. The frame has five screws and no model number is stamped on the crane (indicating a pre-'57 manufacture date). Besides serial number (which does not start with a frame letter designator) there is just what appears to be the letter "K" stamped on the crane. The stamping on the 4" barrel identifies the gun as being a ".357 ctg. Highway Patrolman". Can anyone identify the correct model number and provide an estimate of value @ 90% condition? From photos previously posted by Hammer Down I am inclined to believe that this gun was manufactured between April '54 and the design change to 4 screws in '56, preceding the introduction of the Model 28 Highway Patrolman. | Super Moderator   | Hard to say without pictures ,but by your description you may have what is Known as a "Pre-model 28" Highway Patrolman, which is a 5 screw variation produced in the early-mid 50's.All revolvers 1946-1958 were made without model numbers. Blue book list that model at 30% higher price than a later model 28. If it was Brushed nickel , which is very RARE, it would command 300% more in price! Rich

They started making the Pre-28's in April 1954 and I have one that shipped in June 1954 which is also a five screw revolver. The Five screw revolvers were only around a couple of years as production changed and they dropped the Upper side plate screw. That is what makes them so collectible and they will often Fetch $475.00-800.00 Depending on condition. Yours seems to be in almost Unfired condition, and I would say a gun in that shape given it's rear existence due to the short time frame they were made as Five screw guns it would be worth around $600.00-$800.00. Typically this style gun will often Bring twice what a Numbered seris in the model 28 does. Here is some pictures of one that shipped in June 1954. In 1957 S&W Started stamping all their revolver's in the crane area with Model numbers, Hence the model 28 was stamped into the cranes and the dash series came after that. There seems to be a ton of model 28-2's out there, but these do not bring what a Pre-28 will Bring. It also seems to have the Original grips as mine does. If you take them off and look at the right Grip panel, it should have your Guns serial number stamped in it. They bring a Premium as well, But should be kept with the revolver they were shipped on for collector Value Purposes. You have a gorgeous gun, do not sell it as they are very hard to Locate due to their existence being focused on a duty weapon most are wore out and tired.
