| Super Moderator ![]() | To me it's a moral decision that someone has to settle in their conscience and then discipline themselves to follow if the time comes, so that one doesn't take the time to think when they need to act. Part of the principle to me is exhausting all other options expediently enough that you can still use the last resort if it's all you have. Back in the late '90s, I was much more skilled with my legs than with any sort of weapon, and the best course of action in practically any situation would have been to run. Now that I'm not as fast as I used to be, the list of options before using deadly force is shorter. If I can escape and a loved one isn't in danger, I'd still rather do that than enter a deadly confrontation. In any situation, some options aren't there, and you have to think fast enough to eliminate them. I believe that the time to shoot is when it is the only choice left, and it should be the last thing you actually want to do.

| Member | CCW carries a very heavy burden/responsibilities. One has to have the mindset, disipline and training to deal with situations that escalate quickly. You need to be able to make fast decisions based on the criteria before you. Then can you live with the decision too or, not too, react? My personal choice to protect my self, my family and others who may be in harms way. I shall not willingly give in to thugs, theives and nere'do-wells. They made their choice and I mine. Hopefully my resolve will not have to be tested. Schu |

| Senior Member ![]() | My son the cop has taught me the tactics he learned at his Police Acadmy, some I have forgotton. To be honest if I had to draw on a person who had the intent to rob me or what ever. I would see what Instrument of crime he had ,if given time. If he had a knife or club I would oviously pull my pistol and holler a warning to Stop or Back Off ( until I'm put in that situation I'll say I don't want to shoot anyone) With that said if the bad guy didn't obey my command to stand down I would shoot him grave yard dead ! If the assailent had a gun It will be him or me...If he/she is weilding a gun, the best shot wins...A.H |

Trader Rating: (0) | if there is absolutely no way for me to run away from the threat . then i will shoot and keep shooting until that threat is no more. i WILL NOT kill over property. if they want it that bad they can have it. that said . the smallest caliber handguns i own would make a devastating wound.

I am prepared to use the proper level of force necessary to dissolve the situation should such a situation arise. This should be your outlook. You don't Carry a weapon as a citizen to go around killing people. It is to protect & defend. The offender decides what level of force is required to make them stop. Should it come to discharging your firearm, it was their choice to heighten their threat which made you decide to do so. Shooting someone should only be done to stop the threat, not to kill someone. If they die from their wounds, it is their fault for committing a crime worthy (as in bad enough) of being shot.

| Senior Member | When I was younger, like Gunney, I had the same "Dirty Harry" mindset that I could just kill anyone that was a threat and have no problem with it. The older I get, the more I realize that the people you have to kill live with you forever in your head. You're not just killing a "bad guy", you're killing someone's son, brother, uncle, or dad. Shooting someone in real life isn't like a scene from a Hollywood movie, and no matter how prepared you think you are, it will change you forever.

| Senior Member | Ivan is right. You must neutralize the threat. If it requires shooting, shoot. If it requires more than one shot keep shooting until the threat is neutralized. If the perp dies from his wounds it was his actions that caused them. |
