| Registered User | old 30-06 Hi, I'm new here, and kinda "new" to huntin/shooting, parent's don't shoot, and don't like shooting, so I'm kinda in a tough situation  We have an old Remmington? 30-06, the owner of the local range said it was made in WW2, but I was wondering ifn anybody can point me in the right direction to get an approx year? It says Remmington, then something underneath it, one of my grandmother's ex-husbands was a gunsmith, and ground off the words under it to mount a scope then the serial is 4132145... is there anything special about shooting teh gun? I'v been shootin the gun for about 5 years, with 150's, and some 180's... also wondering what's a good match scope for it? we're just lookin to go deer hunting with it, in the average price range, we have a Weaver scope on it, also old... just lookin for pointers...Thanks alot for any info Johnny |

| Senior Member  | Send an email to info@remington.com with all the info that you have on your gun including serial #. Tell them that you need to know the year of manufacture and they will email you back within a few days with the answer. I've done this for several of my Remington guns.

| Super Moderator | Johnny, You have a 1903a3 Springfield 30/06 that has been sporterized and scoped...Value is around 350.00 to 400.00 . Mfg. sometime during WW2, I don't have the exact year by serial Number info at hand...Somebody here should know. They are a fine rifle, accurate, and tough as nails. It will last you a lifetime. Make sure you keep the Magazine cutoff in the proper position ( the on/ off lever on the right side) when you have the magazine loaded so it will feed the next round . Rich

| Mr. Fixit   | Moose is exactly right, you have an '03A3 and according to the serial nmbr, yours is one of the "safe" guns with the properly heat-treated receiver. I would suggest updating to a more modern scope and shoot the he ll out of it. If it has been properly maintained and you continue said maintenance, it will last for several lifetimes. Congrats on a fine rifle.

| Super Moderator  | I've looked unsuccessfully for a chart showing serial numbers for 03A3's and was unable so far to locate it. However, I'm gonna guess your gun was manufactured around 7/43. Check out the date on it's barrel. It should be stamped underneath the front sight area. Somewhere in G&G's file of old threads is one posted by NRAJOE. He set up a "sticky" at one time for our convenience in determining mfg. dates of 03A3's.

| Registered User | thanks alot, i searched for that sticky, but couldn't find it... it has no front site, the guy who had it used to make his own guns and stuff, and he shortened the barrel I think, the range owner said the barrels were 23" long? ours is only 20 and a half i think?
