new to airrifles

my gun club has started to have air rifle matches, i want to get into them but know nothing about them. can anyone help me with this? my budget is not to high maybe up to $150.00.

I bought my 1000 fps air rifle at WalMart for around $40+/-. Included was a 4x scope. Shoots both .177" pellets and BB's. Requires about 5-6 pumps of the lever and it'll penetrate a piece of 2x4 wood easily to a depth of about 1/4".

ive got a shadow 1000 (gamo) i picked up for $125 that shoots pretty nice up to 50 yards. as far as accuracy goes it will keep a nickel sized pattern at about 25 yards. gamo also makes a CFX model, which is a fixed barrel, its more expencive but more accurate too.

the plus about having a more high powered rifle is that you can use it for small game if you ever felt the need. i use mine for dove, partridge, ducks and ringtail cats; it seems handles those pretty well.

I've got a Crossman Quest 1000X Break action, single pump pellet rifle. Its GREAT!!!! VERY powerfully (1000 FPS)
Very nice rifle for the price. You can pick them up for about $100 I got my mine on a early bird special Friday for $85

It pays to not go too cheap though. I bought a Spanish-made air rifle at Wally's for $99 - fairly accurate, about 660FPS - but the stiffest and grittiest trigger ever! The way it's designed, there's nothing I can do to improve it.
A better Gamo should fill the bill.

The Gamo spring air are great. I bought a Shadow 1000 at walmart a couple of years ago, Accuracy is excellent and only got better as it broke in.

i found a gamo shadow 1000 at a pawn shop for $95 they would not take a check so by the time i got back with the cash it was gone.

i also found a winchester 1000sb with a 4x32 scope at meijers for$120

Beware of the Winchester. It was a good enough gun, but the trigger was horrible on mine. It was awful, probably similar to the one BigDog described. It might be able to be fixed, but I ended up trading in for a Gamo.

If your only punching paper you don't need the 1000 fps models. This will be an instant savings on cost.

Just wondering, does it matter what type air rifle it is? Crosman makes pump ups under the Benjamin Sheridan brand name the ones I have used are very accurate.

This is my first post, but I do know quite a bit about airguns. If you're wanting to get serious about it you may want to look at a PCP (precharged pneumatic) they are charged with up to 3000 psi of compressed air. They are very powerful and accurate. I have killed countless rabbits and two coyotes with a .22 cal.

Gamo have the package deals with the scopes. Just like a .22 keep testing ammo until you fine the one your partiular rifle likes. Having said that I tested a bunch only to come back to Gamo "Match" as the most accurate as did my stepson and others I know. They seem to know air rifles.

Found out resently that gamo match pellets are the most accurate in my shadow, but the gamo hunter runs a very close second.

Keep in mind Gamo IS a spanish company.

Many of the rifles you guys mentioned are all likely manufactured by Gamo- just marketed by another company.

Remington, Winchester, even many/most of the Crosman break-barrel springers all likely come from the same Spanish or Chinese factory as Gamo. This includes the low cost Beeman "SS" models.

If you notice, many of the available budget models have the same trigger assembly as the Gamos.

Also someone asked, Evanix is a Korean company.

When it comes to airguns, you get what you pay for! There are a multitude of machined parts required to make an airgun, a quaility constructed model WILL cost more than most rimfires.

Save yourself the headaches and skip the "top end of the low budget" guns. Gamo's are nice for someone wanting to see what airgunning is all about, but I wouldn't go for their more expensive models. You can buy a lower end quality german airgun- such as a Beeman R7 or R9 for what some of the Gamos cost- and there simply isn't any comparison.

RWS does make some quality rifles. They aren't top of the line, but are light years above the Gamos and other Spanish/Chinese imports. I used to own a RWS 48, Nice rifle for the money.

For top of the line quality, look into HW -Weihrauch, Theoben, AirArms, and "Top end" Beeman's (they are not a manufacturer- just an importer. They import many HW guns as well as Theobens- but they do carry the low end Chinese stuff now too- So just because it says Beeman doesn't mean its top quality anymore unfortunetely.) .
